I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

so this is me: i love to laugh out loud, share cupcakes and udon soup (not in that particular combination, if you please). i love witty banter but never want to feel like i've always got to be on. love to spar, share jokes, be sweet and cool, but can enjoy those uncomfortable silences. i love blueberry pies, hiking, anything that requires physical activity and i'm a book gal with toweing book cases. some girls swoon over shoes, give me a first edition nabokov and i'm on planet bliss. i love to travel (taiwan in november, everywhere else next year)...i'm a planner, i'm organized but never take myself quite so seriously. i'm pretty independent, pretty secure about myself and have finally found a life and career i enjoy...
i also have a memoir coming out in August from Algonquin Books entitled, THE SKY ISN'T VISIBLE FROM HERE.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

i'd like to meet someone who can make me laugh out loud, someone who's not rude to busboys or cab drivers, someone who doesn't spend hours in the bathroom preening, someone who respects that writing is exactly what i want to do with my life, and someone who doesn't mind that i sometimes alter menu items and i secretly hoarde hot pink cashmere socks. someone who's willing to share a cupcake. someone who READS.

Music:

Led Zeppelin, Cat Power, Modest Mouse, Aimme Mann, Hendrix, AC Newman, Beth Orton, Coldplay, Built to Spill, Dolorean, David Gray, Gorillaz, Depeche Mode, U2, the Smiths, The Shins, Mazzy Star, Nico, Pearl Jam, Spoon, Stars, Tosca, White Stripes, Zero 7, Coltrane, Johnny Cash

Movies:

Badlands (Terrence Mallick, and anything by him for that matter), anything by Cassevettes & Jean Luc Goddard, The Shining, Lolita (Kubrick's version), Breakfast at Tiffany's, Requiem for a Dream, Pulp Fiction, Less Than Zero, Scarface (and anything Brian De Palma), All About Eve, High Art, Nico Icon, Fahrenheit 451, Goodfellas, Y tu Mama Tambien & more.

Television:

Hmm....I actually don't watch that much television...I used to be an HBO junkie. Now, I secretly dig the FOOD NETWORK (it's shameless, I know)I also watch old Degrassi High re-reruns (yes, you read correctly, I'm a 30 year-old watching Degrassi High.)

first fall

two days ago, a woman tumbled down a flight of stairs. a flood of us spilled out of a subway car and stood frozen as she fell, screaming. at the foot of the stairs, a few of us rushed over to her. she...

i'm a terrific hoarder of things, but i'd rather not be. i guess this comes from living in a home where i had very few pretty things and the luxuries my friends took for granted - cable television, le...
