About Me

My book will have its second release from Homofactus Press soon, which will include new letters and photography. My former publisher, Merge, was closed by the founder on July 7, 2007. You can find Amazon reviews of that edition here . Reviewers are welcome to request a pdf.

And without further ado, hello.

If you want to read my writing in a totally different context, try Brad Listi's Nervous Breakdown , where I contribute now and then.

I should clarify something about the book, given recent questions: this is not a cancer story. It is a love story and an illness story, one that involves systemic lupus, Sjogren’s syndrome, fibromyalgia, steroid-induced bone disease, immunosuppressive therapy (I get the rheumatology dose, not the oncology dose), and all the complications those things entail: medical appointments every week, chronic pain, side effects, altered schedules, and more.

The cover was designed by Sara Lando, an artist and graphic designer based in Milan; her professional site is Mooserental.com. You can find some excerpts on the blog here at MySpace and on my personal blog here to see how disease changes the body, relationships, and love. Note: currently, that personal blog is having some technical indigestion. *burp* No worries: the techie fairies should have it up and running soon.

My book's text works together with images from some favorite photographers. I'm posting a few images from their work that do not appear in the book . . .

These surreal images are by Chris Koelbleitner/bekon, who can be contacted directly for print information. A Montreal-born photographer, writer and teacher living in Japan, Chris is able to catch a theatrical moment in time - that's what made me a fan at first. Then I was struck by his artistry in photo manipulation to create emotional dreamscapes:

These images are some of Camil Tulcan's work; his company in Bucharest, Romania, can be reached at Rasterpoint.ro. His photos are raw, meditative, sensual, elegant, and humorous at the same time. I was fascinated:

I'll post more work by the participating photographers in time.
