About Me

Baltimore Magazine has named us the Best In-Store Performance Venue in the city in their 2007 Best in Baltimore issue and we're proud to receive such an honor after just opening the store in April. Here's what they had to say:
"...brews a strong cup of coffee and stocks a solid selection of fiction and nonfiction...the shop also hosts an impressive performance series...in a cozy, intimate setting."
Baltimore Chop: Bookstore, espresso bar, and coming soon, an art gallery. Our first day of official business April 9th, 2007 - Opening Day at Camden Yards. We are the ONLY Baseball bookstore in the WORLD and we are proud to be the only general Independent bookstore in downtown Baltimore. Break the chains and keep your bucks in Baltimore! And please support all the city's independent bookstores and businesses.
We are located at the corner of Washington Blvd. and Emory Street, just across from Camden Yards, Sliders and Pickles, and just a few rowhouses up from the gas station on Russell/Greene street.
Hours
Monday-Friday 6:30 a.m.-9 p.m.
Saturday-Sunday 6:30 a.m.-5 p.m. (or later, all seven days, if dem Os have a night game, or just if we feel like it which is most nights. We've hardly closed on time yet!)
Coffee: How good is our coffee? Rave reviews have been pouring in, with one happy customer calling it "Probably the best cup of coffee I've ever had." There are no airpots with coffee sitting around for hours - each cup is made to order, Americano-style, with only the highest quality beans.
Many deals abound: Buy $25, and get a FREE advance reading copy. Many great titles to choose from. It's practically buy one, get one free!
20% off New York Times bestsellers. All day, every day.
Plus, surprise deals changing daily. Come see us...
If you're not in Baltimore, no worries. We already have customers all over the world and we ship your books for cheap!

My Interests

We have plenty of books - Maryland authors and subjects, 20% off New York Times bestsellers, fiction, non-fiction, art, music, poetry, you name it. We also have a special section of antiquarian books like first editions, autographed titles, and more. Our gift selection ranges from MarieBelle of New York Fine Chocolates, hand-blown glass from Baltimore Glass Works, cute Japanese greeting cards, cool CDs of artists you might not have heard of but should, DVDs, handmade 'Record Bowls', baseball Bobble-Heads, and more!
We have a full espresso bar complete with micro-roasted, organic, fair trade espresso, syrups, teas, Italian and French sodas and more. so come enjoy a drink or take it to go! Don't forget about the best local Kosher bagels from Greenspun Bagels, plus the unforgettable pastries from Patisserie Poupon. Start (or end) your day with an amazing croissant or pain au chocolat!

I'd like to meet:

Booklovers. Music lovers. Art lovers. You get the idea...
Nashville recording artist Elizabeth Cook met dozens of you at her in-store performance and came away with some great thoughts on the store. Read more in her Rave Reviews blog above, but here's a little bit of what she had to say:
"(A) cubbyhole of cool, haven of hip, gangplank of groove...the most extraordinary, eclectic book selection ever ever ever...You'll feel smarter just sitting around staring at the titles...a colorful wonderland...It's unlike any bookshop I've been in...it's the heart of the people running the Chop that makes it most special...It's a place where around every corner and on every shelf, you get a laugh, a warm fuzzy feeling, an ooh, an ahhh, a place where you can truly expect the unexpected."

Music:

Support Elizabeth by sending as many folks as possible to listen to her on cmt.com! You can repost this banner on your myspace by copying and pasting the code below into the "about me" section of your profile!Don't search for Britney here. If all your feelings, all your fears, were confirmed with Britney Spears (*apologies to Elizabeth Cook and her great new song), don't worry - our music selection is everything we are - eclectic and awesome with a focus on local musicians (contact us please) like Avec, Karmella's Game, Stupid Hero and Flying Eyes, and incredible national bands and artists from Nashville and beyond that may not get the attention they deserve. But you deserve to know about all of them.

Movies:

Tons of Baseball DVDs available, with other titles coming. Come on in or check the website! www.baltimorechop.com
