i wrote the words in my byline to a friend the other day in his frustration of not being able to put pen to paper. my response to him was: "to write... u must first stain the paper. u must not get too precious about it, at least not initially or it will never come out."i struggle with creativity every day. wanting the final product to be perfect, but finding that only gums up the process. when i just let it flow, that pure expression has more life, something more vital about it. yes, i believe in the selective edit, the directed gesture, but not for the heart of the matter. that must take daring and come straight from the gut.
