What do you want to know? Older, perhaps a bit more cantankerous but not completely cynical (yet). Proud to be a liberal/progressive/whatever, Red Sox, Celtics (yes, I'm back on the bandwagon) and Patriots fan and insatiable music/record nerd.

I've been the publisher of Suburban Voice (originally Suburban Punk) since 1982, although it's been on hiatus since 2003. I'm making attempts to end that hiatus but, in the meantime you can read my SV blog . I'm also a columnist for Maximum Rock 'n Roll , AMP Magazine and Mass Movement . I also host an on-line radio show Sonic Overload that is updated each Monday.

Finally, I share my life with my wonderful wife Ellen, who is a social worker and that's a lot more impressive than anything I do. We've been married since 1988 and she puts up with way more from me than she should.

My Interests

Music, baseball, football, boxing, reading, listening to left-wing pinko radio and grilling food that is very bad for me.

I'd like to meet:

PAY ATTENTION... ONE MORE FUCKING TIME... I'll only add you if I already know you or if you send me a message along with the add request. Really, that's all it takes and I'll probably add you unless you're a racist, sexist, homophobe or flag-waving pay-tree-ot.

Also, I love getting comments... especially like this one:

... but please don't use that space for big ads or flyers. They'll be deleted immediately and you'll get a Stephen Colbert "Wag of the Finger"

That being said... welcome!
REGARDING MY CALENDAR: These are shows I'll likely be attending but may not for one reason or another... and if I have them listed here, you can be assured they'll be worth going to.

Music:

7 Seconds, 9 Shocks Terror, AC/DC, Adolescents, Aerosmith (first four albums), Amdi Petersens Arme, Appendix, Articles of Faith, Bad Brains, Batallion of Saints, Black Flag, Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult, Buzzcocks, Career Suicide, Caustic Christ, Chicago (early), Clash, Count Five, Crucifix, Damned, Dead Boys, DEVO, Dictators, Die Kreuzen, Dillinger Four, Direct Control, Discharge, DOA, Dr. Know, Effigies, Faith, FU’s, Gang Of Four, Husker Du, Iggy & The Stooges, Jam, Jerry’s Kids, Jesus Lizard, John Coltrane, Judas Priest, Killing Joke, Leatherface, Limp Wrist, Minor Threat, Minutemen, Mission of Burma, Motorhead, Naked Raygun, Negative Approach, New Bomb Turks, Out Cold, Pagans, PIL, Poison Idea, Public Enemy, Ramones, Really Red, Ruts, Saints, Scream, Sex Pistols, Slayer, State, Stiff Little Fingers, Subhumans (both UK and Canada), Sweet, Teengenerate, Toxic Reasons, Urban Waste, Void, Wipers, Wire, World Burns To Death, X-Ray Spex... really, the list is endless

Movies:

Godfather I/II, Animal House, Network, It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Blues Brothers, Kentucky Fried Movie, URGH! A Music War, Decline of Western Civilization, Clerks, Repo Man, Taxi Driver, Woody Allen movies, especially his earlier, funnier ones...

Television:

Baseball, football, basketball, Jeopardy, 60 Minutes, Greater Boston, Simpsons, South Park, Family Guy, old sitcoms and cartoons

Books:

"Ball Four" by Jim Bouton, "Psychotic Reactions and Carburetor Dung" by Lester Bangs (my biggest influence/inspiration in my writing), "Commodify Your Dissent" by Thomas Frank, music reference guides (the perfect bathroom reading!). I could lie and say I read lots of Chomsky and Zinn but, while I basically agree with their ideas, I find my attention wandering when I read them... so it's mainly books about music and sports

Heroes:

"Whatever happened to the heroes? No more heroes anymore!"

My Blog

Somethings missing...

I've got to do something about the lawn mower I use. It was actually a replacement I got last year when the place I sent my old mower to be repaired lost it. That's rightthey couldn't find my mower. ...

So this band I was in has a 7 inch coming out

Yep, it's true. No System or, more accurately, yours truly performing No System songs with different musicians. We'll get to that in a bit but, first, a self-indulgent trip down musical memory lane. I...

Im voting for McCain (*updated!)

The title of this blog might come as a surprise to anyone who knows about my political leanings, which are pretty left of center. Certainly to the left of the moderates who control the Democratic part...

Happy birthday Mr. Orr

I was talking to Ellen about my favorite local athletes of all time. For the Patriots, it was Steve Grogan. He wasn’t the most gifted player but the classic "plugger." He got it done--one tough ...
