About Me

FIDDLE/MANDOLIN/STEEL/KEYS/B3/BANJO/ BASS VOCALS. Whether he's churning out Delta Blues riffs alongside Blues legends like Buddy Miles in NYC, or blazin through The Devil Went Down to Georgia at Rockin Rodeo in Valdosta, Georgia, or smokin on the keys and Hammond B3 during Mustang Sally then belting out House of the Rising Sun at the Country Playhouse in Nashville, Tennessee, or even creating intricate mandolin parts for up and coming Nashville songwriters, Greg Holt ("Fiddler", as his friends call him) can only be described as . . . eclectic; not to mention as adaptable as a chameleon. Country, Bluegrass, Blues, Rock; Jazz; Classical; Civil War; Celtic; he plays it all, with energy as restless as his spirit. Since he first picked up a fiddle at age 11, Fiddler knew that the violin would be his voice to the world . . . he just wasnt quite sure what language to speak. So hes said it all with his music. But give him his choice, hell jump on stage and belt out a Charlie Daniels tune til his bow smokes followed by a Blues ballad like Stormy Monday, to cool off just a bit. Fiddler began touring at age 17 with the Orange County Youth Symphony Orchestra, one of the top youth orchestras in the country. As he sawed his tunes and sowed his tales in a classical style in far away worlds, such as Japan, Hong Kong, and mainland China, and back again to Bach on Broadway in New York City, Fiddler began to ache for further expression in different forms. Fiddler first heard his violin idol, Jazz great Stephane Grappelli, at age 19 and two years later he met Stephane in Monte Carlo during a live performance. Fiddler learned from Grappelli that one should put the fiddle down to lose his dependence on sheet music and to create music by singing in his head, heart, and soul. Sheet music in the wind, tunes rolling in his head, Fiddler picked up his bow and his 100-year-old fiddle and headed for NYC, where he quenched his desire to go beyond classical. He played jazz (with award-winning composer Paul Knopf), Civil War music (for plays by Obie Award winner, Christopher Cartmill), and Celtic music (with Rhythm and News Magazines top-rated Aisling). He then turned his sights to Rock and Roll. He played British Power Pop (with critically acclaimed Clockwork Robin) and Gothic Rock (with Sisters of Mercy openers, The New Creatures) where he began to perfect his affects and stage presence. He played Country music (with singer-brother of Joan Osborne, Homegrown Lopes), and Roadhouse Blues (with NYC Top Rated Singer, Lex Grey). Fiddler launched his solo career and sat in with Irish-Rock greats Rogues March and Blues giant Buddy Miles. When he met Bluegrass legend, Vassar Clements with his famous carved fiddle, Fiddler was inspired by a true American legend to go to the next level with his music. So he came back to the South where he focused on Blues and Country. Fiddler accompanied the giants of Blues: Eddie Kirkland and Johnny Rawls in Florida, and spiced up the sounds of local country band Hazzard County (Nashville ex-pats). Urged to move to Nashville, Fiddler knew that his musical future was in this great little town. Fiddler continues to expand his music. He brings all his varied musical instruments to the table that he has picked up in his years of playing. These include: fiddle, mandolin, keyboards, Hammond B3, vocals, and banjo.
