Updated 21 May 09: What a year! In addition to concerts and festivals at home, Iain will travel to play in Canada, Denmark, Norway, Shetland and twice in Switzerland. Plans are also underway for a return to Germany after a gap of four years.
Iain is teaming up with fiddler Gemma Donald (2006 Glenfiddich Fiddle Championship winner) and talented Shetland guitarist, Ryan Couper, for a series of concerts and workshops at the Celtic Roots Festival in Goderich, Canada. It’s been over 17 years since Iain last set foot on Canadian soil and this August will mark a welcome return.
The popular Scottish folk group, Cairdeas, with whom Iain plays fiddle, is on the rise in Europe this year. Cairdeas sees Iain join forces with good friends Colin Ramage (guitar, vocals, mandolin) and Neil Paterson (pipes and whistles) to create refreshingly uplifting Scottish music with a rousing sound and an exciting edge. Already very popular around Europe, the band will travel to Denmark in July to perform at the renowned Skagen Festival where they will share the bill with The MacCallman’s, Barrage and Allan Taylor amongst many others. Cairdeas just recorded a 30 minute set for BBC Radio Scotland. Listen in on 30th May from 19.05 on 94.3FM (check out ‘cairdeasmusic’ on myspace or visit www.cairdeasmusic.com).
Shetland is the destination in October! Iain will be performing with The Reel Thing Ceilidh Band at the 2009 Shetland Accordion and Fiddle Festival. The band recently enjoyed a hugely successful broadcast on BBC Radio Scotland and it will be the first time the full band have travelled to perform in Shetland as a collective. As a founder member of the Reel Thing, Iain played with them regularly for years and still does when time permits.
In November Iain once again takes to the road /sky…(whatever) for a 3 week tour of Switzerland with Cairdeas. The boys recently appeared on BBC Scotland’s premier folk show, Travelling Folk, to promote their album, Autumn, and to talk about some of the band highlights. Switzerland was one of them! Cairdeas has a well established fan-base in Switzerland and they’ll be touring the country with their new album from their base in Luzern. (see ‘cairdeasmusic’ on myspace for tour dates).
Iain’s critically acclaimed solo album, Silver Strings’, is available to buy from Footstompin Music and many other online retailers. Christmas is only a couple of hundred days away. Why wait? :-)
Press: Iain Anderson's musical exploits have taken him from around his home in Edinburgh to around the world. Widely recognised as one of Scotland’s top professional fiddlers, his playing has earned him appearances at many international events including a Royal Gala Concert for H.M. the Queen at London’s Royal Albert Hall and the MTV Europe awards. Throughout his career, Iain has enjoyed working with some great Scottish musicians on and off the stage including KT Tunstall, Aly Bain, Phil Cunningham, Violet Tulloch, Mick MacNeil ('Simple Minds') Calvin Volrath and Bryan Gear. Iain's debut album, "Silver Strings" was released in 2006 and he is fortunate to count amongst his fans the well-known Radio 2 presenter Ken Bruce who, in 2007 and 2008, secured Iain live performances on ‘Friday Night Is Music Night’ with the BBC Concert Orchestra on BBC Radio 2. Iain plays with the popular folk group, 'Cairdeas', and works freelance, playing concerts and ceilidh’s and recording with many different musicians at a variety of events both in and outside of Scotland.
Iain is available to play for every conceivable kind of Scottish event anywhere in the world as a duo/trio or as part of a larger band. If you would like to consider booking him for your event, or if you'd like a demo CD, please Email: [email protected]
