About Me

Fiddler. Born of Irish parents in midwest US and plays Irish traditional music, alt-country, what have you. Recently released a new CD along with my wife Kate as the HiBs! We are on the New Folk Records label and are being distributed by Allegro. The CD is now available all over the internet and at CD shops and Irish Import shops in the States and around the world.
The CD, entitled "40 Acre Notch", features Daithi Sproule and Brian Miller on guitars, Brian Wade on bodhran, Paul Wehling on bouzouki, Sean Egan on piano, and the great Roscommon box player, Martin McHugh.
Aside from HiBs performances, I occassionally sit in with the Wild Colonial Bhoys (see my friends list), an excellent band. I am an alumnus of the Doon Ceili Band, having made a CD with them a few years ago. Other past bands include Coolidge (on playlist), Corncrake, Field Day, Flip the Cat (formerly know as the Clumsy Lovers from Minnesota), and the Quaking Bog Ceili Band. Dare I forget to mention Milwaukee's finest, the Minstrel Druids?
I also co-founded and teach fiddle at The Center for Irish Music . We are now a non-profit 501c3 organization and operate out of The Wellstone Center in St Paul, MN. Check our website for details and keep your eyes open for upcoming events, including the third annual Young Irish Musicians Weekend in June 2009.

Influences: My wife; my sons; my family. Excited to hear Dermy and Tara Diamond's new CD with Daithi Sproule! They recorded it in town at the same studio where we did our CD. Also loving an old recording called Crossroads with Joe Ryan and Eddie Clark. Nice fiddle and harmonica combination. And when it is really loud at work, Bob Mould, Flaming Lips, Vernon Reid and Paul Westerburg.

Music Track - Coolidge: Bar Whiskey

Bar Whiskey is a track from the rough studio mix of the Coolidge recording. I was a member of the band for about a year until their demise shortly after making this recording. It was a great band.
