Poetry drives the voices from my head!

About Me

Born into a family of writers and entertainers, Theresa Davis was drawn to the arts. She has expressed her artistic abilities in several mediums. She designed and created Ebony Angels (a line of hand-crafted dolls) , Mental Notes (hand-crafted books) and started a clothing line for children. A teacher for 15 years, she currently teaches middle school using the arts across the curriculum. In 2002, Theresa joined forces with her mother and brother to form the spoken word performance group MoDaSo (Mother/ Daughter/ Son) and released two music CD's "This is for Family" and "The Uncivil War". She has self published two collections of poetry "Torn" and "Head Games". Theresa has gone on to forge an impressive start as a solo performer, winning poetry slams and featuring at spoken word venues around Atlanta. In August 2005, working with the incredible Dawn Axam movement and words came together in a beautiful collaboration. The poems "Killer" and "Warning Signs" were choreographed as a part of the debut of Mrs. Axam's new dance company. Her children Imani (16), Tia (15) and Zion (4) are her constant sources of energy and inspiration. Theresa is a member of the 2006 7 Stages Art Amok Slam Team!

Influences: Alice Lovelace and Charles "Jikki" Riley! Anyone who maintains their integrity in all things. Those who have the ability to live, laugh and love!!I do not love you as if you were salt-rose or topaz, or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off. I love you as certain things are to be loved, in secret, between the shadow and the soul. I love you as the plant that never blooms, but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers. Thanks to your love a certain fragrance, risen darkly from the earth, lives darkly in my body. I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where, I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride, so I love you because I know no other way than this: where "I" does not exist, nor "you," So close that your hand on my chest is my hand, So close that your eyes close and I fall asleep. -Pablo Neruda
