Born in Tucson, Arizona and raised mostly in Huntsville, Alabama, Maiysha began writing at the age of 11 years old. She was inspired by personal events in her life, and used writing as a therapeutic outlet. Throughout the years, Maiysha sporadically shared her work with teachers, family, and selected friends, but it wasn’t until 2004 that she began performing spoken word on stage.
A twice published poet, she felt it was time for her to share herself with others in hopes that her words would reach and make a difference in the lives of even just a few. Maiysha is an introspective and self-reflective soul, and her poetry reflects such. She writes about past traumas that she has both seen and experienced, however, she tries to keep an uplifting undertone to her work. Her poetry often portrays her love and respect for people, nature and all things living. Maiysha’s work clearly displays her belief in the interconnection and divinity of all beings. She currently is the organizer of the Atlanta Poetry Meetup Group, and she participates in various poetry events around atlanta doing open mics, featuring and hosting.
