BEHOLD! The infinite wisdom of The Pink Stainless!

About Me

Formed 16.Aug.2000 by Simon Strong and Harry Howard after a brain storming session resulted in the lyrics for Blood,Sugar,Dropping (on 1st release 'the skys a soft target'), the pair recruted the talents of maverick bass player Nick Boddington and jammed until enough material had been created to warrant a live-performance. Along came Sonke, who needed a band to improve his drumming skills and due to the instant 'perfect chemistry' experienced by all participants the logical step to continue as a unit was thus cemented irrevocably. The uniting factors of this unusual quartet was a love for raw garage punk and the ability to work together as a team with very little or no verbal communication at all, a strange recipy indeed. -Who wrote this??

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: pinkstainless.net
Band Members: Nick Boddington / Harry Howard / Sonke Rickertsen / Simon Strong
Influences:

Simon: Robyn Hitchcock, Neil Palmer, Stewart Home, Billy Childish, Jarvis Cocker, Syd Barrett, Morrissey (not the Smiths guy, the other one), Momus.

Sonke: The Kinks, Klaus Kinski, Ton-Steine-Scherben, John Pfeiffer, Plastic People from Prague, Mum, Dad, Morricone, Ziggy Wrock

Harry: Possibly sonkes Mum. The original brief (devised by Simon and I at the time I proposed the band to him in 2000 and later with Nick and Simon) was to do psychedelic/garage/R+B/Texus-punk type stuff - hence the name. Syd Barrett was always included as well. Later 70s punk influences crept-in and more recently the 80/90s has made appeared in the choice of some of the covers - although probably put through some of the original briefs filters. The Charm of Innocence (Momus) for example being set to a piece of music I had already written and Babies (Pulp) having half its chords removed. How much the original brief is effecting things is hard to say because our influences on the whole, of course, are much, much broader.wa
