SKYLINER: THE BAND

About Me

Formed in 2000 around the average age of 14 by vocalist/guitarist Jake Becker, and drummer/percussionist Ben Brenner, this native Jacksonville FL quartet has been slowly but surely stirring the pail with their original, love-it-or-hate-it brand of raw, true heavy metal. With the rough 'n tumble release of their first demo in 2005, 'Light Comes Out of Black', a collection of the first few songs ever written and completed by the band, followed up by a consistent churning out of new, stronger material, SKYLINER is taking bold steps and no prisoners. From anthemic, mid-paced hard rock/metal, to steely acoustic work, to emotionally charged, speedy power-thrash, and on to sprawling progressive-tinged metal, there is something for anyone with a fist firmly raised to enjoy - scars and tears all intact. Skyliner blends a heavy classic metal sensibility with accessible songwriting and a progressive spirit, topped off with cathartic, spiritually centered lyrical essays on personal issues, social incident, and other generally harder-edged, emotional topics. Skyliner's explosive, intimate live shows have slowly helped gather more of a cult status among fans, and, along with their ever-growing catalog of music, originally landed the band a slot at the sadly cancelled 'Beyond the Mountain' music festival. Only in recent times has the local scene started to sit up and take serious notice of this proud metal steamroller, first commissioned in a live setting years before mass media dropped hints to it's followers that metal might be 'cool' once again. And with aggressive, undaunting perseverance, the national scene is soon to follow. Fueled by an uncompromising intent to make a change for the better, a close relationship with the fans, and a passion for true heavy metal, this fire of rebellion has only just started to burn.
"This band combines classic NWOBHM of the early 80s with the Progressive Metal from the later 80s..(read: FATES WARNING)...fans of WARLORD and ANGEL WITCH will absolutely love this act a lot!" - StrutterZine (Holland)
"..Real, honest-to-goodness metal in the vein of Saint, Barren Cross, and Deliverance.." - Christian Metal Mayhem (USA)
"Power metal in Jacksonville is in the hands of 6-year old Skyliner, a recognizable force on the metal scene." - Jacksonville's Folio Weekly (USA)
"..I see a ton of potential in this band and anxiously await what they will come up with next. I can only imagine it will blow doors on this demo both in production and in songwriting. I am certainly glad that there are young musicians interested in writing heavy metal that doesn't follow the current trends in music." - NoLifeTilMetal (USA)
"..They have created a style of their own. They can write interesting tunes. They have plenty of potential.." - The Metal Metropolis (Norway)
"My wife walked in the room as it was playing and said, "Man...that guy can't sing worth a fart!" - The Whipping Post (USA)
"BTW...my wife just walked by again and asked...'Is that still that same guy? Why doesn't he just shut up?'" - The Whipping Post (USA)
"Jake stuffs his pants with socks.." - Pat, former drummer of Second Thief
"I think you need to like.... Go back into the coma from wence you came. The '80's were 20 years ago.... Your music is like listening to millions of cats getting it on while being chopped up in a blender. You need to just stop and find a different sound. Your bandana is lame without dreads." - Private MySpacer Nick Vanwey
