2001-2003
WithinAnotheR, a dark/aggressive/progressive metal band based in the mountains of the Hudson Valley, NY, began in 2001. Members included Dean Sternberg, guitars and lead vocals; Chuck Naccarato, drums; Mike Poplees, bass.
After a few demos, live shows and lots of media exposure, Mike left in late 2002. No permanent replacements were found and the band dissolved as Dean and Chuck kept themselves busy with other musical projects.
In 2006, Dean was contacted by guitarist Paul Mallory (Soul Shroud, ex-Sanctuary/Synphony). Paul, an exceptional player who had been considered for Savatage and the Trans Siberian Orchestra, was looking for someone to sing on his own recordings. Shortly after, Dean ran into an old friend, Matt Mason, a professional bassist whose resume includes touring/session work with numerous national recording artists and bands. Matt expressed interest in delving into something heavier and more challenging. Dean asked Paul and Matt if they'd be interested in being part of a WithinAnotheR resurrection. Both agreed.
After a few weeks of jamming and getting everyones' schedules aligned, the four rehearsed for the first time at Chucks. Everything clicked musically and personally from the get-go. But it wasn't until August, 2006 that the band finally found a rehearsal space and was able to begin rehearsing weekly.
It didn't take long for WithinAnotheR to tighten up within a short time, but one thing was still missing--vocal harmonies. At the end of August the band welcomed Jerry Scarschu into the fold as the lead singer. After two weeks of rehearsal and a successful show in Poughkeepsie in September, 2006, Jerry proved himself to be a more than capable frontman with a great voice. Between Dean and Jerry, the two-part vocal harmonies that have been missing for so long in live settings are finally present.
