ELENA'S SANDCASTLE is a one-person project founded by Elena Andersson as a side project of the neoclassical/darkwave music experiment called GOTHIC LETHARGY that has existed since 1997. The music style of ELENA'S SANDCASTLE can be defined as goth/etherial/darkwave/soundtrack. The name of the project is borrowed from the title of Iris Murdoch's novel "The Sandcastle". My roots are in gothic/doom/death metal. In September, 1995, I started as a keyboard player in a Russian doom/gothic band SHADOW located in Orel, 350 km south direction from Moscow. The very idea of ELENA'S SANDCASTLE appeared in March, 1999, with the new stuff that sounded more progressive and melodic than old GOTHIC LETHARGY works. This new material couldn't be recorded properly in a very small and poorly equipped home studio. For almost 4 years I, born and raised in a provincial Russian town, have been dealing with extremely bad social and technical opportunities for realizing my ideas. Inspite of this fact I continued to record the new music from time to time and stored it on tapes that are known for being a bit more reliable than memory. Some of these interesting, but almost destroyed recordings were used on the first instrumental demo "Per Aspera Ad Astra" that was recorded between years 2003-2004 in Sweden. Here belong new versions of "Breathless" (1998) and "Rope-dancer" (2001).
