Meet Lorne Padman: he’s viciously busy … Bio by Harley Augustine © Writemix Pty Ltd September 2007......Between working as a Director and National PR Manager of leading Australian label Vicious, spending time in the studio as Buzz Kitchen, and spinning A-grade sets at a swag of Melbourne’s premier clubs: Lorne Padman is a very busy man. He’s also a man on a musical mission…........One of the nation’s best-loved industry identities, Lorne has been on decks for over a decade. Growing up on a solid diet of electronic acts in the 80’s – including everything from the New Order to Underworld – music has long been part of his hectic life. An avid clubber, it wasn’t long before he sought to work in the inner sanctums of Perth’s clubland – and while he worked as a lighting operator, he dreamed of being a DJ. Seeing as he possesses the patience of a goldfish, it was a good thing his ‘dream’ didn’t take long to materialize. After securing his first break under the tutelage of legendary WA DJ Gary James at Orsini’s, he, and his trademark ‘big room – hands up’ House sounds, soon became a regular fixture in Perth’s finest clubs and special event main rooms.........From his three year solo residency at BASE Lounge Bar (2001-04) and others at leading WA venues like Metro City, The Red Sea and Paramount; to his myriad of guest spots everywhere from Ambar to the Leederville Hotel; by working hard on decks and choosing his tracks wisely, Lorne made a name for himself as one of Perth’s favourite DJs – and established a reputation for rocking floors (and schmoozing bars) that any self-respecting DJ could only aspire to achieve.........Moving to Melbourne in 2004, Lorne picked up where he left off and hit the ground running: immediately hooking up with Vicious honcho and ARIA Award Winning DJ/Producer, Andy Van, and landing a job at the label. It didn’t take long for working with (and around) some of the nation’s leading dance music talent (including Dirty South, John Course, The Potbelleez and Mind Electric) to have an impact on Lorne’s DJing – with a constant stream of superb promos and demos rolling across his desk all day from every esteemed dance label in the world, how could it not?! Already an avid devotee of House, it was at this time that his passion quickly turned to obsession; and it was at this time that his silky, hands-up sets started capturing attention across the city…......From Seven and Room680 to Boutique and Saratoga, and from Billboard and Circus to Alumbra and the Metro, Lorne’s played the lot. And, from sexy as f**k House to booty-shaking electro funk, he plays the lot… as long as it’s BIG, baby! A renowned party DJ, his enthusiastic presence behind the decks is only outmatched by his precise technical skills and prodigious track selection. Ah yes… his track selection… In today’s competitive DJ world the ability to pick the cherries from the rocks is what separates the wannabes from the pros – and Lorne is firmly the latter! Always funky, and always up-for-it, from sassy Vocal House to throbbing Electro filth, his tunes are typified and united by a common theme: they’re all 100% bonifide, locked and loaded dancefloor weapons… fresh, promo weapons.........Lorne took some time away from his string of residencies and kicked off 2008 with a circumnavigation of the globe with a nationwide Vicious Sound System & Vicious Cuts Summer 2008 tour – which saw him sharing an exclusive bill with lads like John Course, Vandalism, Mark John and Sgt Slick – and also Lorne partnered up with Supafly Inc and Fierce Angels’ Mark Doyle (ex Hed Kandi) for some exclusive showcases around London in early February.........On top of his DJing and Vicious careers, Lorne also manages to squeeze more than his fair share of time in the studio! An avid music lover from an early age, making his own beats and tunes was a seemingly natural step for him; hooking up with the likes of Dirty South, Studio B, Supafly Inc, Soul Junkie, Navajo and Christian Luke since 2005, as the classic DJ biography cliché goes: he’s never looked back! Producing under the moniker ‘Buzz Kitchen’ Lorne has remixed a horde of tunes which have received notable support across the globe – including Silosonic’s ‘Something to Make You Feel Right’, So Phat!’s ‘The Surface’ and James Kakande’s ‘You You You’; and more recently, remixes for Stonebridge (‘You Don’t Know’ and ‘Close To Heaven’), SE:SA (‘Like This, Like That), Laura Kidd (‘Automatic’), Sgt Slick & Pitch Dark (‘I Am Ready’) are due on the shelves any week now!
