"... The Tongue Kiss stage trapped me for a while with some funky, disco vocals coming from a duo consisting of a guitarist and DJ known as Polyfonik. Luckily for me I had noticed they were followed by Writemix Wradio presenter, Harley Augustine. I had heard a lot about his funked up prgressive set last year and am a big fan of his radio show. He certainly did not disappoint, his music strayed away from the electro bent that many progressive DJ's have turned towards and he managed to play a set full of deep beats reminiscent of my favourite DJ, John Digweed. 45 minutes certainly was not going to be enough! ... OFFICIAL BIOGRAPHY (009)
Harley Augustine is a prominent Australian Progressive House DJ/Producer based in Melbourne. His productions are signed to several labels including Dyami Records, Jetlag Digital, Avangardia, Bit Records and Deepsessions Recordings; and have been supported by DJs the ilk of Hernan Cattaneo, Dubfunk, Kosmas Epsilon, Kintar, Jimmy Van M, Miss Nine and Taucher.
As a DJ, Australia's Harley Augustine has established a reputation during his decade-long career for delivering upfront Progressive House sets of distinction. From rolling, funky and driving, to deep, melodic and trancey; his style smoothly transgresses every nuance of the genre that his hometown, Melbourne, has helped make world famous. A certified Progressive 'purist' inspired in the early 90s by legends like Sasha, Seaman and Cattaneo, he’s played it from day one - and despite the recent dominance of Electro, Techno and Minimal, has consistently stayed true to his heart, driving basslines, and hypnotic sounds ...
Gathering new fans and opening fresh ears wherever and whenever he spins; Harley is an entertaining, talented and skilful DJ who is renowned for upfront track selections, clever programming and his ability to take a dancefloor above and beyond at any time of the day or night. With numerous top-shelf club residencies in Melbourne to his credit (including those at ‘Room680’ and 'Q Bar'), he's spun guest sets across Australia and beyond (including Ibiza’s infamous ‘Savannah Bar’ in 2008), and has rocked major festival crowds at the likes of Future Entertainment’s huge Two Tribes, Kiss My Grass, and Summadayze events.
As a regular, longstanding and popular fixture on the biggest Progressive House lineups in Melbourne since 2000, Harley has had the honour of playing for a number of leading dance brands (including Renaissance and Global Underground) and with a myriad of the planet’s biggest names, including: Dave Seaman, Nic Fanciulli, James Zabiela, Hernan Cattaneo, BT, Satoshi Tomiie, Guy J, Kosmas Epsilon, Chris Fortier, Danny Howells, Lee Burridge, Jimmy Van M, Nick Warren, Phil K, Anthony Pappa, Jamie Stevens, Luke Chable, Eric Entrena, Orbital, Tiefschwarz and Pete Tong. In the last six months of 2009 alone, he supported Kosmas Epsilon and Guy J, and played the warm-up sets for Jerome Isma-Ae and Dubfunk on their Melbourne debuts …
Beyond the DJ booth, Harley's weekly KissFM radio show 'Writemix Wradio' is now in its 5th massive year on air and can be streamed globally from 9am-11am (AESDT) every Thursday morning at www.kissfm.com.au. Boasting an Australian and international cult following for the sheer quality and consistency of its Prog tunes, the show has played host to high calibre international guests like John Digweed, Hernan Cattaneo and Jimmy Van M; and showcased special guest DJ mixes from the likes of Dubfunk, Hernan Cattaneo, Nomad In The Dark, Chloe Harris, Lank, Jason Jollins, Hyline, Shane, Jim Rivers and James Talk. Furthermore, Harley’s own exclusive DJ mixes have been aired on Australia’s premier EDM website ‘Inthemix’ and the world’s premier Progressive House web radio station ‘Frisky Radio’.
An accomplished pianist and avid musician since his early childhood, it was only a matter of time before Harley finally turned his hand to production and got around to setting up an Ableton-based PC studio! Hitting his midi-keyboard for the very first time in 2007, his debut track ‘Invincible’ gleaned immediate support from prog legend Hernan Cattaneo - who played it on his coveted ‘Sequential’ radio show, globally, in July of that year. In late 2008, leading German Progressive House label, Jetlag Digital, signed 'Invincible' (along with 'Symphetic' and 'Panorama') for release as an EP. Dropping on January 29, 2009, the 'Panorama EP' was extremely well-received - with all 3 tracks hitting the label's Top 20 Chart on Beatport simultaneously, and 'Panorama' reaching no.6 and no.1 in KissFM Melbourne's Top Ten and Dancemusichub.com's Progressive House Charts respectively ...
After storming the Top 20 promo charts on both progressivehouse.com (where it stayed for 4 weeks and peaked at no.8) and releasepromo.com, his follow-up three-track EP for Jetlag Digital - 'Overtime' - was released in late June 2009 and received support from the likes of Hernan Cattaneo and Kintar; while his remix of Shane's 'Superficial' for Mexico's Kansak Recordings followed shortly afterwards and made its way into numerous online radio DJ sets and promo mixes around the globe.
His next two tunes ('A Hitch In Time' and 'Maloli') were played back to back by Hernan Cattaneo on tour in Australia in May 2009 and have been signed by Dubfunk's leading underground label, Dyami Records. Scheduled for release in early 2010, the package will include a Dubfunk Remix of ‘A Hitch In Time’ as well as the original – which has also been played, supported and charted by leading studio whiz, Kosmas Epsilon …

HARLEY AUGUSTINE – THE WRITER:
As the Creative Director of his own freelance copywriting business, Writemix, Harley has established a name for himself as one of the nation’s premier dance music and generation X/Y wordsmiths …His editorship in 2003-2006 of Australia’s leading urban culture magazine ‘REMIX’ for several years saw him spend days hanging with Jackass’s Steve-O, afternoons chatting with the SugarHill Gang, and nights interviewing dance superstars like Tiga, John Digweed, Bob Sinclar, Mylo, Faithless’ Sister Bliss, and Dimitri from Paris. Today, in 2008, when he’s not compiling and writing everything from major features to CD reviews as Editor of Beat Magazine's 100% (Australia's highest circulating dance mag), Harley crafts publicity copy and editorial for a host of clients (including flyers and web copy for Future Entertainment, Pioneer Pro DJ, EQ/Stomp (for their coveted Balance series), Room680, and Capital DJ/Vinyl Pusher Records), and pens DJ biographies for an exclusive stable of talent. Indeed, renowned nation-wide for having an inimitable way with words, since 2003 a veritable ‘who’s who’ of Australia’s dance industry have sought his talents to give their bio’s a spruce up and ‘winning edge’ - including Phil K, Mark James, Nathan G, TV Rock, Grant Smillie, Derek {K}and Steve Strangis - while international heavyweights like Lee Burridge and Dubfunk have recently commissioned him, also. In 2006, Harley’s contribution to the nation’s music media landscape was recognised when he was formally inducted into the ARIA Award judging panel – an exclusive committee comprising just 50 of Australia’s leading journalists.
