SUMMER OF DRUMS PROMO MIX 07/08
..
At a very early age, Guy Lewis was consumed with music. Being introduced to Blues, Rock and Soul by his father, Guy acquired a musical taste beyond his years. From singing since the age of six to becoming a percussionist for his entire time at high school, and eventually at one stage studying as a classical Tenor at the Melba Conservatorium, Guy has some of the broadest musical attributes you will find in a DJ today.
Having such a propensity for music, it’s no wonder that Guy’s diverse talent has evolved into contemporary music as a well regarded DJ. Heavily influenced early on by local masters of the craft such as Andy Van and Groove Terminator, Guy finally obtained his first turntables at the age of 15 and has never looked back, having played alongside local names such as Andy Van, John Course, Hook N Sling, Ben Morris, Sgt. Slick, mrTimothy, Mark John and Derek{K} to name a small few.
Guy has held residencies over the last few years at high profile venues like Room 680, Motel, Concrete Lounge and Lotus Bar, with guest appearances at Seven, The Loft, Saratoga, Metropol, Baraki, Khokolat Bar and Circus. As well as these, Guy was a regular guest host during 06/07 on “The Buzz Kitchenâ€, a Friday night show on Melbourne dance music station Kiss FM, alongside Lorne Padman and Tristan Chase. Over his career to date, Guy has built a reputation for his soulful, funky and uplifting “big room†vibe, and uncanny ability to move any type of crowd.
In January 2008 while on holiday in Thailand, Guy was privileged enough to be invited to DJ at the biggest nightspot in Koh Samui; Green Mango. Playing to a crowd of over 1000 people, made up of both locals and tourists, Guy gave them a taste of what Australia has to offer. As well as this, Guy was also asked to play at Sun Light Pub, which is a popular outdoor beach bar on Chaweng Beach in Koh Samui. While it was a more relaxed and chilled-out setting, Guy was in his element playing sexy House music for the beach-goers as the sun set across the island.
Whilst Guy’s creativity with mixing and moving occupies his nocturnal hours, his motivation during the day is working as the Promotions Assistant for well known and highly regarded Australian dance label Vicious, under the mentorship of his good friend Lorne Padman, as well as local heavyweights John Course & Andy Van.
Always looking forward in music, Guy has the ability to look to the past for inspiration, with his huge collection of old vinyl LPs and Singles including 80’s and Disco rarities. On the production side of things, a joint project with Stephen Gori (formally of Playrock) is on the horizon.
Guy has become a name to look out for on the Australian House music scene and the future is looking bright for this young man and the dance floors he commands.
