Foot in Heart
“All of my life I can recall my cheeks turning rosy, a change of stomach tide, and that ominous internal voice “what did I just say?†sounding off in my head. It happens every time I put my foot in my mouth, as that play on words would have it. But that is the reality of my existence: leaping before looking - and then looking, and looking some more. It occurred to me that this is also how I’ve approached love…which explains my pre-occupation in writing songs about thatâ€.
The new album, Foot in Heart, encompasses everything that phrase conjures. In theme it circles the gamut of emotion, from excitement- in the mere idea of finding love and satisfaction- to lust, passion, devotion, confusion, frustration, anger, and sadness at the end of a relationship. But in true romantic prairie girl fashion she brings it full circle. These are hopeful, earnest, sometimes cynical but above all, honest piano pop songs.
Colleen will take a big leap forward in releasing her second full-length disc . Hearts will follow.
People say:
"Why is this woman not celebrated across the country? Her second album, a stellar collection of rootsy piano-pop tunes, proves she is a national treasure in the making -- along the lines of Joni Mitchell, Anne Murray, Gordon Lightfoot or k.d. lang." Sandra Sperounes, The Edmonton Journal
"It's a slapshot into the back of the net, Colleen. Every young woman should hear its resounding crack." 4.5 out of 5, Fish Griwkowsky The Edmonton Sun
Reviews for "A Peculiar Thing":
A lilting and joyous debut.
-Sandra Sperounes, The Edmonton Journal
This album exists outside of cool, unconcerned with any scene. Brown is a good ambassador for our town.

Perhaps the mark of a real songwriter shows when some of their best songs can come from the simplest inspirations, or the sparest musical ingredients. Singer/songwriter Colleen Brown seems to have figured that out. Brown has a vibrant, clear, compelling voice and a real gift for injecting vocal dynamics into the way she phrases a lyric.
