Highwire Films began in 2003 and has since become one of Edmontons rising independent film companies. Their initial project began with the feature length film, The Greatest Love Story Ever Told, released in spring 2005. Since that time the company has worked on several of their own short films as well as collaborated with other filmmakers on a variety of projects. These experiences have given them a diverse and in-depth knowledge of film production. With this experience they were confident it was time to delve into their second feature, Losing Will.
Losing Will follows two young men as they take their quadriplegic best friend on a final road trip. Starring some of Edmontons most talented improv stars, the movie contains no script but was shot completely through improvised scenes. The result is a touching, real and visually beautiful film. The film also features music from some extremely talented established and up and coming musicians, including Christian Hansen, Tadgh Cooke, Whitey Houston, Merrill Garbus and The Corduroys. Losing Will is currently in post-production and will be opening in spring 2007.
Highwire Films other component is their music video production. With intimate knowledge of the music business (as both executive producers are also musicians), Highwire Films allows band to have professional music videos created with filmmakers who are aware of the bands needs and respects their creative input into the filming process. They will also work with bands to create full-length DVDs for merchandising purposes, if desired.
Highwire Films primarily consists of Mike Robertson (B.A. in Film Studies) and Arlen Konopaki (B.F.A. in Acting) as executive producers, directors and cinematographers. Cadence Konopaki assists in marketing, promotion and production. They also have a wealth of talented sound technicians, actors, musicians and other filmmakers whom they regularly collaborate with to create new and innovative film.
