It is time for Mr.Blair to leave political office. If he does not go to trial, exile in Barbados is another possibilty. But remaining in Britain and claiming to be Prime Minister, given all the deceptions of the past, is not a possibility. The Labour party conference in Manchester on 23rd September 2006 will be the trigger for yet another wave of mass protests. Parliament reconvenes on October 9th. If there is any democracy left in the UK, it should also coincide with an immediate vote of no confidence and General Election.
There is enough evidence of deception in the lead up to the Iraq war to ensure that Mr.Blair is held to trial. For the long-running impeachment campaign, see http://www.impeachblair.org. The best possible form of healing is for a war crimes trial in the International Criminal Court in the Hague. Beyond the legal issues over Iraq, there is also the mounting grievances and resentment towards the imposition of 'New' Labour upon the Labour party. Since 1979, with the Thatcherblair witch project, our political system has been turned into a marketplace. The idea of politics as public service, or as a vocation, has been denigrated. The soul of our system has been sold off. We are asked to buy a product with the word 'Labour' on it, which uses that word as a label. It is as if we are being made to buy Tesco's products with the words 'New Co-op' written on them. This has nothing to do with the Labour party of Keir Hardie or Clement Attlee, nothing to do with the Labour party that grew out of brave and visionary people like Robert Owen or the Tolpuddle Martyrs, nothing to do with the Labour party that came out of progressive movements such as the Chartists or the Suffragettes. Clause Four was the philosophical essence of the party. The day it was eliminated was the day that the hijackers took over the pilot's cabin. They have bullied, cheated, lied, and intimidated all opposition. Not since the dissolution of the monasteries under Henry VIII has so much been taken from so many by so few. Before the final school or hospital is sold off we urgently need to unify, stand as one, and take back our land, our livelihoods, our liberties, and our labour. There is increasing pressure on the regime and signs that a sea-change in values is occuring. Above all we must save the planet - by making a living, not a killing.
