BACKGROUND.....

Founded the infamous hipdop/dnb clubnight HIT&RUN - currently in its 6th year in Oxford and Manchester.
MC battling - finalist atJumpOff spin-the-mic beat some heavyweight names to become champion of 'Bombay Bronx' (the club night of RADIO1 DJ Nihal) and thenOneMusic/Battlescars competition live on Ras Kwame's Radio1 show
"Riz was on oh-my-god you can actually put all these cleverly arranged words together and make them into a narrative kind of genius." (Battlescars review, by Mel Bradshaw, UNDERCOVER MAGAZINE, May 2005).
Riz @ JumpOff - Spin the Mic - MC Battle
Live PA of the 2005 mixtape at Speakers Corner was well recieved -
"He's a sick MC, he's bad. He's got nice charisma, he knows how to handle himself on the mic. He's got flow, he can handle his biz." (Speakers corner gig review, Skeptic, Undercover Magazine, July 2005)
Then acted in Road to Guantanamo which won the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival (with a fare share of drama on the return journey when I was illegally detained by British Intelligence , as you can read about in the blog on this page)
....then after POST 9/11 BLUES (debut single)struggled to get airplay , blew up on the internet and got loads of radio / press / TV, it was released independently
Since then some great projects like 'Gadaffi: the Opera' with Asian Dub Foundation, Aftershock with Nitin Sawhney, visiting collaborator on the joint project with the National Callet of China and comtemporary Kathak choreographer Akram Khan.
Most recently - Britz on TV. Glastonbury & BBC Electric Proms. Supported Mos Def at Warehouse Project (2,500 people!). Radio1 Maida Vale session. Recently appointed EMERGING ARTIST IN RESIDENCE at Royal Festival Hall.

"potential voice of a generation material" - The Guardian Guide

DJ Mag
['Radar' review]
“stupendous…just as street smart as book smart…the money shot by a country mile…essential” 5/5

Get Cape Wear Cape Fly:
“Musically he expertly mixes political satire, social commentary and smart analysis to a mixture of electronica and orchestration”

Scroobius Pip:
"Riz has the ability to effortlessly get a point across whilst maintaining a vibrant, uptempo sound"

Nitin Sawhney:
“He has something to say and is very versatile. A real talent.”

Akala:
“fucking amazing”

Sway:
“Love the EP. Lyrically he’s really saying something, and these days that very rare”

….Aside from rocking various stages to rave reviews in three cities [in the US this Spring], he also left behind a bombastic five-song EP, Confirm/Ignore, that's as refreshing and jarring as anything to be released this year….His wordplay challenges authority, pisses at conformity, and confronts issues of race and class unlike any rapper in the States, period.
- The New Times, Florida

Channel4.com
“His songs are explosive, lyrically driven descriptions of modern life. Riz pokes at social and political ills, as he puts it, "things that piss me off". He'd like us to listen to the words, but if we aren't bopping along and having a laugh, he'll be disappointed.”

TOUCH Magazine - 'On the Rise'

““sick beats and rebellious lyrics......hip hop is either crunk or clever. Riz MC is one of the few that can do both”
