The KillerBites were formed in the latter half of 2006 after the brothers of the group (Charlie and Steve), recorded a track entitled ‘Something’s Got To Give’ (number 3 on the player).
From an early age the brothers had always shown a keen interest in music but had always tended to have different tastes to that of the other. Charlie had a leaning more towards the ‘rock band’ orientated styles, whereas Steve preferred Hip-Hop or anything related to studio production, loops and turntables.
In his late teens, Charlie left for London to live and perform with his band mates from ‘Hanger Lane’ (myspace.com/hangerlanemusic).
Steve stayed in his hometown and focused on writing Drum&Bass with his close friend and business partner Klone. Months later, the pair were signed by a high profile label known as ‘Moving Shadow’; leading them to be known as the well respected production/DJ outfit ‘Rascal&Klone’.
This signing was a great achievement for the duo and enabled them to work for many other top labels, DJ worldwide and to even have two of their tracks used on ‘Grand Theft Auto 3’ for one of the featured radio stations (MSXFM).
“To cut a long story short, my brother and I got together in the old studio, ‘The Grey Rooms’, where Klone and myself used to do all of our work. Charlie was home from London for the weekend so as you can imagine, we’d been out for a couple of drinks. We decided that, as we never had before, we should try having a jam together…just for laughs!â€
After listening back to the rough edit of the track, they decided that it had more potential than first expected and agreed to get back to each other once it had been tested out on friends and relatives for reaction.
Steve knew that a friend of his (another Charlie!) going by the name of Rockw3ll, had also been working on some beats of the same nature that he really had a feel for and so decided to run it past him first.
“Rockw3ll was the first guy I knew with a computer that you could make music with. It was an Amiga. He used a programme called ‘Octa-Med’. I thought it was the most amazing thing I’d ever seen!â€
Rockw3ll also saw the same potential in the track as Steve and since they were both at ‘Casa De Rockw3ll’ (Rockwell’s house) he decided, in return, to play some of his new works.
Impressed by what each other had brought to the table, a new partnership was formed…. Roman&Rockw3ll (The beats and backing behind ‘The KillerBites’).
Four months later saw the start of more track ideas by Roman&Rockwell, which were then sent to Charlie in London for him to write vocals for. At the same time the guys started producing for Steve’s cousin Bill (Ruma) and another close friend Rob (BMC).
“These guys had been following me during my time as a D&B producer and quite often performed alongside myself and Klone as our ‘M.Cs’. They both have awesome lyrical skill and offer great content every time.â€
After much discussion, Roman&Rockw3ll decided that, rather than spreading themselves too thinly, it would be best to incorporate the more urban guises of Ruma and BMC into the tracks they were already working on with Charlie, to add a slightly different edge.
It worked!
We hope you enjoy the uploaded tracks. More are soon to come.
The album, ‘So Bad’, is in completion stages and will be touching down early in the summer of 2008.
