About Me

The leadership election itself is over: John and his supporters fought an excellent campaign, but Brown was determined to prevent any contest or debate. I shall keep this site up out of solidarity and eventually convert it into a general Labour Left Myspace site.
Support John McDonnell 's campaign for the leadership of the Labour Party.
"This is a grassroots campaign of party members, young people, pensioners, trade unionists and working people of all colours and creeds to change the political direction of the Labour Party.
The leadership is not the property or gift of any Westminster elite. Ordinary Labour Party members want a democratic debate on the policies needed to re-engage with our supporters, not a coronation of a chosen successor, or a personality contest.
In recent years, Labour Party conference has voted for direct investment in council housing, the renationalisation of rail, a halt to PFI in the NHS and the repeal of Thatcher's anti-trade union laws. These democratic policy decisions have been ignored. There is overwhelming public opposition to privatisation, the replacement of Trident and the war in Iraq. The leaderships of the three main political parties who support these unpopular policies have left millions out in the cold.
I am standing for policies radically different from any New Labour candidate. I want to stop billions of pounds being wasted lining the pockets of private contractors that should be invested in further improving our public services. I want to purse a foreign policy based on peace and justice, not one devised in Washington by George W Bush and the neo-cons.
We must remove the paralysing burden of student debt from our young and the disgrace of pensioner poverty. We must end the scandal of homelessness and overcrowding, address the growth of inequality, and introduce a real living wage.
These are mainstream Labour movement policies which are supported by the vast majority of the British public and can secure Labour a 4th term in government. We need to decentralise our policy-making, restore party democracy and give all member and affilates a real say in the future of the country.
The campaign is about rebuilding our party and its popularity. Above all, I want you to get involved . Please get in touch ,with us to find out more. Help us give our party back to its members."
Here are some of the policies that John is campaigning for:

The withdrawal of British troops from Iraq and Afghanistan.
The end to privatisation of public services.
A Real Living Minimum Wage of at least £7 an hour.
A green energy policy based on renewable power sources
An increase in the Basic State Pension from £84.25 to £114 a week.
Defence of comprehensive education and the abolition of student tuition fees.
The restoration of trade union rights and civil liberties

John has campaigned tirelessly on many issues, including trade union rights, human rights, the environment comprehensive education and against war and for peace.

To vote for John, you have to join the Labour party

Do you live in a constituency with a Labour MP? If so, why not contact them and ask them to nominate John for the leadership. Even if you suspect your MP will be supporting Gordon Brown or is not a natural supporter of John's, try to encourage them to nominate, in order to ensure there is an election, and not a coronation.

I'd like to meet:

Anybody interested in the issues mentioned above; members of the Labour Party or its affiliates interested in the leadership election and engaging in a debate about the party's future; people who have left the Labour Party over issues such as the war or privatisation but are prepared to consider rejoining and helping with our campaign; people who have not joined the party but may consider doing so, and want to help with this historically important campaign.
