Jo Harrop can often be found in London venues, performing classic soul and jazz songs, interpreting them with captivating style in her chocolatey, rich voice. Inspired by Nina Simone and Ella Fitzgerald, smooth, sultry and seductive is what she does best, her performances described as sensual and moving, she sings from a place deep in her heart.
Jo has worked as a backing vocalsit to pop stars such as Leann Rimes and Enrique Iglesias, Rod Stewart, Westlife and co-writes with songwriters, Tom Howe, Jamie Norton, Ian Barter, Alex Webb, and Ian Curnow.
Her live shows have included supporting, The Blind boys of Alabama at Camdens' Jazz Cafe and entertaining the Sultan of Dubai in the Royal Jumeirah .
Acoustic, organic & up close and personal is how Jo loves to perform, to show the depth and intimacy in voice, inviting the audience inside her world for a little while.
She was recently voted the number one artist in the popworldpromotes' unsigned artists chart, (www.popworldpromotes.com) and will soon be showcasing the single "Give It Away" on T4's popworld show. Jo's "Give it Away'' also made it to the top 30 finalists of O2's undiscovered event 2007.
"In A Sentimental Mood'' from Jo's live jazz at the Jazz Cafe EP, was featured Courtney Pines' Jazz Crusade in May 2007.
She says, '' Songwriting for me is something I like to work hard at until I get songs that I love to listen to myself, and hopefully other people will. I love songs with soul and a melody you can sing along to, a grove you can move to, and lyrics that reach out and touch you, words that tell a story. I sing a lot of Cole Poter, Burt Bacharach, Rogers and Hart, Carole King songs, and they are a lesson in songwriting, they stand the test of time. To complete a good strong album can take time and patience, but it is worrth putting your heart and soul into it.''
