Described as having a rich, chocolate toned voice, Jo Harrop, has earned herself a name as one of London’s finest young Jazz singers. Her ability to convey meaning into the lyrics of a song as well as interpret its’ mood, and deliver compassionate performances, make her stand out as a unique and classic artist on the scene today. She knows the art of singing a ballad but can swing too, she enjoys every single note and it shows. Harrop’s well chosen set lists do not always strictly follow the jazz genre, but quite often dip tastefully into the blues and soul world, including some catchy original works too. She is influenced and shaped by the greats, such as Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Anita O’day and Tony Bennett, as well as by Aretha Franklin, Dionne Warwick and Stevie Wonder. Her retro sound and image are enchanting, and suit all kinds of events, and sophisticated occasions. For the past few years, Jo has been entertaining audiences at the famous London Jazz Café, Pizza Express on Dean Street, Pizza On The Park, The Dorchester Hotel, Terre Di Nano, in Tuscany, The Place Jazz Café in Rome, performing before the Sultan of Dubai and supporting The Blind Boys Of Alabama, to name but a few. Appearances include, GMTV, Loose Women, Children In Need TOTpops, Sound BBC Sound, The Album Chart Show, Big Weekend, T4, Graham Norton, a plenty! She is backing singer to Enrique Iglesias, Leann Rimes, Shontelle Layne, and Pixie Lott, and ‘Snowman’ composer Howard Blake obe, is a fan of hers. Many sessions have included recording for Jo Whiley’s “live Lounge†from BBC Maida Vale Studios, and various advertising and film syncs.(Also see www.myspace.com/joharrop)
