About Me

My first love is music and I feel so lucky to get to share some of my favorite music each week with folks on the radio and web. "Hillbilly Fever" is a classic country radio show on East Tennessee's Own, WDVX. It airs at 7PM est every Thursday night. On Sundays, I do an Old Time Music show from 12-3pm EST, called "the Clinch River Breakdown" it features string band music both old and new, Bluegrass, Roots and early Country Music. The station can be streamed at www.wdvx.com The CricketSoda Myspace Profile Editor ..

My Interests

Music, vintage clothing, old Ford trucks, I love dogs - especially bassett hounds, gardens - not the perfectly landscaped kind, but the quirky ones that reflect the personality of the gardener, 78 records...basically if it's old or rusty-I like it!

Heroes:

Nipper, the WDVX microphone is a hero of sorts-the microphone that has become an icon at WDVX is an RCA type-77 DX Polydirectional Velocity Unit that I'm told lived it's previous life in an armed forces radio station in Anchorage Alaska in the 1950 & '60s until it was surplused out. These microphones became a main staple in most radio & TV studios in this era because of the warm sound they present to acoustic music and the human voice. This is achieved by suspending an aluminum corrugated 1/8" wide ribbon across a gap of very strong field magnet, that generates an electrical audio signal as sound waves travel through the assembly; hence the term velocity (ribbon) microphone.Sarah and Maybelle Carter.. width="425" height="350" ....
