Disjecta Membra

About Me

Formed in 1993 by your mumbling narrator (Michel) and augmented by an exhaustive cast of collaborators, live members and session players, Disjecta Membra has for well over a decade endured international cult status as one of New Zealand's leading dark alternative musical entities.
Often mistaken for a 'band', Membra-ship has become equally notorious for the many weird and wonderful personages to have served, and the occasionally bizarre and usually fictitious narratives that have been issued surrounding their tenure, in response to demand for irrelevant personality trivia.
Disjecta Membra's most active musical period was from 1995-2000, with two early EPs, the 1997 debut album Achromaticia on Heartland Records (Aus) and Nightbreed (UK), the near-mythical lost album Sibylline Leaves and a number of compilation appearances resulting in the semi-iconic stature of tracks like Cauldron of Cerridwen, Skin Trade and Antoinette Marionette.
From 2000ish, output as Disjecta Membra became increasingly sporadic and took a back seat to running the Mediatrix label with long-time friend and collaborator Jason Just , promoting events, and performing as a background member of various other bands and projects.
The label/company arm of Mediatrix was dissolved in 2005, although the family of collaborative artists remained in situ, and Disjecta Membra again commenced making live appearances and working on new recordings. This has recently resulted in a resurgance of interest following an appearance on the well received She's Lost project (coordinated by myself and Josh Wood of The Mercy Cage ) in May 2007.
