....AND LET THE HURT LEAD YOU ON

About Me

“Australia’s goth superstars of the 90’s” – Strobelight Records....... (Superstars?? Wouldn’t that involve money and er…fame? Kind words nonetheless). ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ SUBTERFUGE were formed in 1993 by Clifford Ennis along with Rick Mullen and Brendan Toull in Melbourne, Australia. Although involved musically together on and off since 1990 it wasn’t until 1993 that we started to take the whole thing more seriously. We began work on a 4 track demo tape, briefly recruited a 4th member (Jonathan Mee) and the self-titled demo tape saw the light of day in September 1993. One gig followed in December that year before Subterfuge were again working as a 3-piece band after we discarded with Jonathan’s services. In 1994 Subterfuge played one gig as a 3 piece band then Brendan left and Clifford and Rick decided to continue as a duo and started work on their debut CD ep DARKLAND AWAKENING. Work on the CD finished in March and it was released the following month to very favourable reviews and was later described as being “one of the most fantastic releases of the genre of that era”. (Who am I to argue?). +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ SUBTERFUGE have also been described as being “....technically skilled, producing some deadly guitar riffs & catchy rhythms. An irresistible use of keyboards, delightfully dark lyrics & relentless drums are the staple ingredients of Subterfuge’s work. They show a rich repertoire with all the usual moody bits & brutal dancey numbers. Given time this band could reach the mantle of greatness”. Phoenix, LOWLIFE MAGAZINE.+ + + + + + SO WHAT HAPPENED? Well, an album was promised but sadly never eventuated (due mainly to a severe bout of laziness**). Subterfuge played live around Australia between 1994-1998 and some new tracks appeared on compilation CDs but then.......SILENCE!!!!!! The intent has always been there to finish the album. Who knows ? ? ? ? ? Perhaps one day !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! **I mentioned “a severe bout of laziness” but 1996-1997 saw a collaboration between Clifford Ennis of SUBTERFUGE and Chris McCarter of IKON. This side-project went under the name JERUSALEM SYNDROME and an album entitled “The Book of Days” was released during this time. Clifford also joined IKON and played guitar with them for 2 years in 2004/2005, (“Destroying the World to Save It” period) This comprised 2 European tours (cheers for that lads). So although lazy, I haven’t been sitting on my arse the whole time!!!!!!!!!!______________________________________________ ______________ You should create your own MySpace Layouts like me by using nUCLEArcENTURy .COM's MySpace Profile Editor !
