Betashine

About Me

Perennial outsiders, Betashine don't fit into any definable categories. That's becuase Matthew Sylvian, guitarist, singer and founder, has his dirty little fingers in every pie. In love with Glam, New Wave, Punk, Psychedelia and Indie, Betashine have over the years, confused many, satisfied all. Beginning as a noisy trio in Dunedin, New Zealand in the 1990s, Sylvian relocated to Wellington in the winter of 2001 to join N.U.T.E, an outfit of misfits and reprobates who pissed of the local goths whilst sucking them for every little drop of alcohol they had. Sylvian found himself the object of sleazy advances from Percy Feral and eventually submitted, exhausted and beaten, becoming lead guitarist with them for a year. Sullen Moon came a knocking next, Sylvian answered and history was made. Sullen Moon's brand of psychedelic punk suited Sylvian to the ground and has been with them ever since. Betashine was resurrected in 2006, primarily as a studio project, but Sylvian missed the glamour and excitement of live performance, and began assembling like minded musicians. Daniel Brown joined in 2009 on bass and vocals, much to Sylvian's delight. Ambitions are high, talent suspect but Betashine will return to the stage this Summer.Pimp-My-Profile
