Classical Guitar for the 21st Century and beyond..

About Me

Nick Cutroneo's Official Wesbite
BIO Nick Cutroneo is a part of the new generation of up and coming classical guitarist. Currently attending the Hartt School of Music for completion of his Masters in Music, he is also a recent graduate of their guitar department’s Bachelors program studying with Richard Provost and Christopher Ladd. Becoming interested in the guitar at around age seven, Nick has focused on classical guitar since his junior year in high school. During his senior year, Nick attended the Pre-College division at the Juilliard School of Music and studied with Antigoni Goni.
Nick is an active performer in the Connecticut and New Jersey areas. This most recent concert season has been quite busy for Nick, participating in the concert series at Christ Church in New Brunswick, NJ; performing a solo recital at Miller Chapel at Princeton’s Theological Seminary in NJ as well as numerous performances in the Central New Jersey and Hartford, CT areas. In addition, Nick performs for several Assisted Living homes presenting his recital programs to the residents. Previous performances also have included recitals at Juilliard, the Hartt School, a master class with the Eden-Stell Duo at Yale’s guitar day as part of a guitar duo representing the Hartt School, several Alumni Events for the University of Hartford in 2007 and 2006, and in 2005 was asked to perform at the Connecticut Classical Guitar Society’s Guitar Extravaganza Weekend as part of a guitar trio.
Not only a performer, Nick keeps a very active private studio in Connecticut and New Jersey. Nick is currently on faculty at the University of Connecticut’s Community School of the Arts in Storrs, and works at Valley Music located in Avon, CT
Nick has performed in master classes with the Eden-Stell Duo, The Romeros, Andrew York, Horacio Salinas, Carlos Bonell, William Kanengiser, Alan Goldspiel, Judicael Perroy, Dr. Douglas James, Ana Vidovic, Carlo Marchion, Manuel Barrueco, and most recently with Oscar Ghiglia.
ABOUT THE GUITAR Nick plays a 2006 Alan Chapman (from Massachusetts) "Extended Lattice" braced guitar. The guitar's back and sides are made out of Brazilian Rosewood, and the top is a piece of 1920's figured European Spruce. The bracing (inside of the guitar) is made ofa polymer boron carbon fiber instead of using wood bracings. This allows the guitar to be lighter while also producing deeper fundamentals and a more balanced sound. My guitar's bracing system was based of a 1920's Simplicio design. Moving the sound holes to the upper bouts of the guitar, which are already dead areas on the instrument, increases the vibration surface area about 22% thus making the guitar louder, and increasing its projection.
As for my guitar support, its made by a builder in Australia, Lance Litchfield. You can view more about it on his website: http://www.litchfieldguitars.com/
