About Me

I love music, nice people with integrity, the outdoors, and lots of other things listed over in the interests section.
We are at the dawn of a new music age, when everyone can distribute their music around the world. Gone are the days of big record labels ripping off artists and putting out cloned commercial junk. Gone are commercial radio playlists that control everything people hear. (Well, almost.) These are very exciting times!
I own Sonik Wheel Productions, providing music mastering and marketing services to unsigned and independent artists. Sonik makes top quality audio and marketing affordable and available for all independent artists, regardless of where they are located, while advocating ethical business practices. (As you know there are some unsavory characters in the music industry.)
We pause now for a message from Sonik Wheel Productions...
--- SONIK MASTERING AND MARKETING ---
Anywhere in the World (including where YOU are!)
Success starts with great songs, solid performances, high quality sound, and effective marketing.
You can elevate the quality of your music without spending a fortune, with Sonik Wheel's affordable, audiophile quality mastering.
Sonik Wheel offers broadcast quality mastering, custom music career and marketing plans, great-looking CD packages, and valuable (and often free) promotional tools, including a free UPC bar code (valued at $750), International Standard Recording Codes (ISRC), electronic press kits, free web hosting, worldwide distribution, contact management, and download sales through sites like iTunes and Rhapsody. We work with partners around the world who provide the same high levels of service and expertise, to save you time and money.
SONIK ON-LINE MASTERING
Mastering is the art and science of taking a collection of completed mixes and preparing them for replication, distribution, and enjoyable listening.
One important aim of mastering is to make your music sound as close as possible to the intended sound on different loudspeaker systems and in a variety of formats, such as CD audio, MP3, and streaming audio for your Myspace page.
Sonik Wheel can transfer your mixes and masters over the Internet with no loss of sound quality to and from anywhere in the world. This means no travel expenses or customs issues for our overseas clients.

Sonik Wheel optimizes your recordings with the careful use of equalization, expansion, parallel compression, limiting, stereo and harmonics enhancements, analog tape modeling, and other processing (if needed) to give your music a consistent and professional sound from track to track.
SONIK'S WARM, ANALOG-LIKE SOUND
Because most recorded music today ends up in the digital domain, Sonik Wheel is skilled at using hi-end tape compression modeling and other special techniques to ensure that your music maintains a rich, warm, analog-like sound. Our HEDD 192 from Crane Song is one sure cure for "digititus."
We use K-System metering and monitoring to help prevent the hyper-compressed, distorted, and ear-fatiguing sound found on many CDs today. Despite popular belief, such hyper-compressed recordings do NOT play well on the radio. Today's hyper-compressed digital sound is a contributing factor in the overall decline of CD sales. Designed by mastering guru Bob Katz, the K-System integrates the best concepts of the past with current psychoacoustic knowledge. Click here to see Bob Katz's honor roll of well mastered CDs. We use many of these as references.
Turn up the volume on Sonik Wheel discs and they will sound better than their hyper-compressed counterparts!
SONIK'S GEAR
Mastering requires experienced and sensitive ears, a supremely accurate monitoring system, and good judgment. All other gear is secondary. Our monitors and amplifier were designed by famed engineer Andrew Lipiniski, recognized by the U.S. National Bureau of Standards as having perfect hearing. You can visit Lipinski Sound at www.lipinskisound.com.
We use only the finest effects and processors, such as equalizers by Algorithmix, harmonics enhancement by Crane Song (HEDD 192), and parallel compression and limiting from the TC Electronic Mastering System 6000. Your mastered songs are recorded to Taiyo Yuden discs using a Sequoia digital audio workstation and Plextor premium drives. Every disc must pass a thorough quality check.
Check out our gear here.
SONIK'S EXPERIENCE
Sonik Wheel's owner and chief engineer, Bill Jacobs, has more than 30 years of experience as a musician and audiophile concerned with the sound quality of recorded music. Add to that many years of experience in planning and marketing.
ISRC and ID3 Tags
Sonik Wheel can encode your songs with International Standard Recording Codes (ISRC). The ISRC is the international identification system for sound recordings. ISRCs provide the means to automatically identify your recordings for royalty payments. This is included with all Sonik mastering.
Sonik can encode your MP3s with ID3 tags, allowing information such as the title, artist, album artwork, and lyrics to be stored in the MP3 file. This is included with all Sonik mastering.
AUDIO REPAIR
We can eliminate unwanted noises from otherwise perfect recordings with Algorithmix reNOVAtor, such as coughs, a squeaky chair, door slam, cell phone ringing, “p”s popping, or the horn of a passing truck. Occasional audio repairs are included with all Sonik mastering.
We can also help you fix bad mastering.
SONIK'S LOW PRICES
With the value of the US Dollar hitting record lows as compared to the Euro and other currencies, there has never been a better time to master your CD's in the USA. As of March 5, 2008, a full-length, audiophile quality master CD at Sonik Wheel is only 198 Euros or 152 British pounds!
Your first mastered song on each project is free, with no obligation to buy more! Plus, the price you pay for any number of songs is credited toward the price of a full length CD whenever you're ready!
Our prices are as low as $20 per song! (or about €15, £10, or 217 MXN when ordering 15 songs)
$135 (about £69 or €102) 4-song mastering package for your demo, EP, digital downloads, and streaming audio, including your Myspace player. Includes 1 free!
$180 (about £92 or €135) 5-song mastering package for your demo, EP, digital downloads, and streaming audio, including your Myspace player. Includes 1 free!
$300 total for a full-length CD mastering package of 8-15 songs. That's only $20 per song for 15 songs! (See the currency converter below for the price in your currency. Examples: $300 USD = £153, €226, 1,587 kr., or 374 AUD)
Click here for a currency converter to see how much $300 US dollars for a full length mastered CD equals in your currency. You may be surprised how low our prices are, given the current exchange rates!
Packages include a red book standard production master CDr, backup master CDr, and Internet ready mp3s converted directly from the 24-bit masters.
You can pay 3 or 4 times as much, or more, for comparable quality mastering. If it would make you feel better, we'll accept that much also! Our prices may be low, but this is certainly not cheap mastering.
FREE SONIK TEST MASTERS!
The best way to hear how your music will sound with professional mastering is to try a free test master. Simply upload your .wav or .aif file to the Drop Box on our mastering page at www.sonikwheel.com. Please note: You must include your e-mail address FIRST in the drop box file description or we won't know who the song is from! If you use a Mac, simply drop the file into your iDisk public folder. Sometimes I get more requests than I can handle, so if you have an urgent project to get done, please send me an e-mail and let me know. Thanks!!

Lately I'm reading books on physics and astronomy. I'm also into reading old stuff... Greek, Roman, Medieval, Renaissance. It feels like someone from the far distant past is here today, talking through their writing.
The Bible is a great book.
Did you know that men, as well as women, are often victims of physical and emotional abuse? Men usually stay quiet about it, feeling that no one will believe them or understand. Abusive individuals so skillfully conceal their violence (emotional and physical) that they often come across as charming and kind. The hatred that the emotional abuser projects onto their victim calms the abuser's inner tension, allowing the abuser to act pleasantly in the outside world. In time, the identity of the victim is profoundly eroded, leading to depression, debilitating anxiety, and other symptoms of severe stress, even suicide. Victims are isolated from family and friends. They lose all self esteem in both their own eyes and their abuser's. The emotional abuser poses as the victim, only to seduce her next victim: another giver and healer. Here's an enlightening book about emotional abuse for men and women. It covers abuse in the family and the workplace...

My Mom, my kids, my grandparents, great-great-great ... grandma and grandpa Ardipithecus ramidus and all my ancestors going back to the beginning of life without whom I and a lot of us would not be here, mastering engineer Bob Katz for his work to make recorded music sound good again, Louis Armstrong "founding father of American music", W. C. Handy "founding father of the Blues", Albert Einstein, soldiers fighting for freedom for all people, Jeanne d'Arc, and those who have found peaceful ways to change the world, especially Mother Teresa, St. Thérèse Martin, St. Francis of Assisi, Coretta Scott King, and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
"The idea that beauty is revolutionary is a revelation to me... I've discovered the part of my brain that can't decode anything, can't add, can't work from verbalized concepts, but that does make melodies with pitch and rhythm... beauty is enough." ~Beth Anderson, composer
"I would advise you to keep your overhead down, avoid a major drug habit, play everyday, and take it in front of other people. They need to hear it, and you need them to hear it." ~James Taylor

"Don't ask me, I don't know." ~Ozzy Osbourne
"I never tried to prove nothing, just wanted to give a good show. My life has always been my music, it's always come first, but the music ain't worth nothing if you can't lay it on the public. The main thing is to live for that audience, 'cause what you're there for is to please the people." ~Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong
