SHOKETTA

Shoketta is a singer from Okinawa, Japan. She was already interested in music from age 2 or 3 and started to do music and formal musical study from age 5. Her first musical career was built at church in the U.S camp in Okinawa from the age of 13. She worked and played for the church for a couple of years and joined the gospel choir. This experience gave her a solid musical foundation and she absorbed the native sound of the gospel music even as she had never had the chance to go over seas. She started to perform in public at 15, and later became a part of the Nakamoto Masakuni music group in Okinawa and joined the female jazz choir “Grooveys.” In her first year as a member of “Grooveys,” she performed at the jazz festival in Naha, Okinawa, after which she had many chances to perform in the music world on her island of Okinawa. She also had a contract to perform for one of the most famous Japanese hotel groups, “Tokyu Hotel”, in Naha city, Okinawa. ( the hotel was closed a few years ago, oh well anyway..) She performed at the hotel for 2 years and 10 months. After deciding to re-train her voice, she moved to Tokyo in 2001 and studied under voice trainer who studied music at Berklee College of Music, who aided her greatly in finding her true voice. With encouragement from her voice trainer, she attended the 2003 “Berklee in L.A” Berklee summer program, which was her maiden trip to the land of America. Afterwoods, she used to do solo work around Tokyo area, and finally she moved to Boston in 2006 to study music at Berklee College of Music. Now she is out of the bean town for her own musical plans.
