About Me

MyGen Profile Generator
I'm a professional musician based in LA. Available for recording sessions, tours, showcases, and other things musical. Enjoy!

Cleveland, Ohio native - David “Young Professor” Cowan is known for his raw, passionate, yet sensitive and musical approach to playing the drums and cymbals. David's versatility has afforded him the opportunity to work with a plethora of great artists such as Brian McKnight, Jennifer Holiday, Les McCann, Kenwood Dennard, Walter Beasley, Lalah Hathaway, Abraham Laboriel, The Clara Ward Singers, Daryl Coley, The Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra, Andre Ward and scores of others. David has appeared on television and video both stateside and abroad. He can be seen in the concert video “Sisters In The Name of Rap”which features now veteran rappers Queen Latifah, Salt n Pepa, and MC Lite. David served as musical director for rap artist Tam Tam who also performs in the concert. He has also led a diverse array of other bands. The most recent being the Boston based rock band ESO. The band’s driving combination of rock, funk, and hip-hop made them irresistible to listeners. In addition David can also be heard on a diverse number of other recordings. From the driving pop/rock of New York based Atomic Tom to the more earthy blues of Boston’s Jeannie Gagne to the more jazzy Gabrielle Goodman or the smooth RnB voice and sax work of Walter Beasley, or the funky fusion of guitarist Tomo Fujita, this phenomenal musician has all the bases covered.

Dave Cowan is a dynamic and deeply musical drummer. His musicianship is on the highest level and he handles a broad spectrum of musical styles. He truely is a drummer's drummer......Ralph Peterson
'It's always refreshing to hear riff-oriented groove music played by musicians with substantial chops. David Cowan's powerful yet musical drumming is the perfect complement to ESO's effective blend of funk and rock.' Rod Morgenstein (Drummer for Winger, Jelly Jam, Dixie Dregs)

"David Cowan is amazing. I am a deep fan of his LIFE-CHANGING intensity focus and passion behind the kit." Kenwood Dennard (Jaco Pastorius, John Mclaughlin, Dizzy Gillespie Maceo Parker)

"Dave is a fantastic drummer and a superb mentor. His deep pocket and crazy chops are phenominal! I love playing with him, & have learned some of life's most important lessons through his integrity & musicianship." Gill Smith II (keyboardist/MD for faith Evans)
