I enjoy films, music and try and get motivated to finish my screenplay! (I should be working on my screenplay right now but I'm adjusting my MySpace profile instead! how crap am I?)
So basically just check out what I've put below...
Stephen Fry; The Hip; Tony Clifton; Kevin Smith; DJ Shadow & Cut Chemist; Joss Wheedon; Simon Pegg, Edgar Wright and Nick Frost; David Fincher; BNL; Z Trip; Janeanne Garofalo; Kids in the Hall; Trailer Park Boys
I guess there's two sides to my muscial psyche! - there's me the listener and me the DJ.
When it comes to sitting down and listening (or standing up and listening - y'kno when washing up the dishes etc) then the best way to describe my tates is... hhmm... allsorts really, from rock to jazz, soundtracks to acoustic - but to name drop a few (varied) favourites;(in no particular order really)
BareNaked Ladies, Tragically Hip, Thea Gilmore, Half Man Half Biscuit, Tuuli, Pizzicato Five, Gilad Atzmon, Dave Brubeck, DJ Shadow, Jurassic 5, Beth Orton, The Eels, Lemon Jelly, Tool, Danny Elfman, Veruca Salt, Gomez, Rolling Stones, Led Zepplin, Nirvana, Alanis Morrisette (notice how Canada seems to make good music IMHO).
But with me the DJ (under the name Monsieur Cineva) then my ever increasing record collection (still with the old vinyl, haven't moved over to CDJ's yet, too many nice peices of black vinyl still to get) covers lots of old school hip hop and electro, through to more modern hip hop (that still has an old school edge and is based on good beats - J5, Z Trip, Quannum and all) right through to rock, Psych, soul, funk, jazz...
Though I never stick to one genre during a set. What's wrong with blending Kasabian over Davy DMX? or mixing LCD Soundsystem into Marilyn Mansun? Trouble Funk with Daft Punk? The Blues Brothers with Midfield General? - When people want to party I'll try and provide a varied backing track...
My TV tends to distract me more than I should allow it...
So over the last year or so I have mostly been distracted by Heroes, Trailer Park Boys, The Mighty Boosh, Lost, Arrested Development, Battlestar Gallactica (the new version), The Thick of It, Nathan Barley, E.R.,
OK I know that's quite US based, but hey, if we're not making it in this country...
As for classic TV shows, well you can't go too far wrong with Spaced, Buffy and Angel, League of Gentlemen, Tales of the City (all 3 mini series), The Office, People like us, Ultraviolet, Project Greenlight, Look around you, Edge of Darkness, 6 feet under, Seinfeld,
The Tales of the City Series are highly recommended. I've also got book cases full up, covering subjects from filmmaking and scriptwriting to Biographies and Dr Seuss. I also buy loads of comics as they seem to cover a lot of the areas of fiction I like to read (Grant Morrison, Alan Moore etc)
Andy Kaufman - plain and simple he was a genius.
Stephen Fry - Greatest living Englishman
John Peel (RIP) - through the radio he introduced me to some of the greatest music ever
Also Bill Hicks, Kevin Smith, Tony Clifton, Woody Allen, Michel Gondry, Shadow and Cut Chemist,
