Licaoni were born in 2001 by the reunion (after some different previous musical experiences together) of Federico Camboni (bass), Dario Di Gennaro (keyboards), Luigi Germani (guitar), Ivan Lupelli (bass) and Luca Pacioni (drums), who formed the band with no intention to decide anything about the music they were going to play, but just to mix together everyones ideas, through the different musical influences, out of the tie of a single style or the choice of an identity.
Theyve been ever kept this no rules way of composing for years, observing the only one law, as in Frank Zappas philosophy, that music can be profound and ironic in the same way and at the same time. The result is that in their works you can find funky, 70s dance music, free jazz, hard and progressive rock, folk music, lounge living together, often in the same track, as in a single eccentric suiteor a schizophrenic mosaic, if you want. They have no restrictions even about the sounds, that they use to work on with the support of different technological equipments (every kind of sound could be welcome: from the cleanest acoustic one to the hardest noise).
Soon, after their start, they have made a name in the musical scene of Rome, playing in many places and making soundtracks for some theatrical showings. In 2004 Lorenzo Mandelli (sax) joined them in the same spirit, widening the range of their sounds and styles.
