Eh...what's up doc?

About Me

I like to listen records with lots of guitars and weird noises on them. I have a narrow, but determined taste on pure pop and loud garage-rock as well as more arty indie-stuff. My favourite bands are...you don't want to hear. Take a look at my friends.
I also write to some Helsinki-based rock-mags, called Rumba and Rytmi and occasionally do dj-nights, where I am usually joined by my missus.
Although being completely talentless, I play guitar (in fact, lots of different guitars - I have an exepensive habit of collecting different Fender guitars) in a slightly erratic way à la Tom Verlaine, Richard Lloyd, Robert Quine and Will Sergeant and try to produce something distantly harmonic for the band I'm in...which is called Lockman

Besides these activities, I tend to read a lot and watch films and documentaries and walk in the woods...the latter parts needs developing. I am also an internet-a-holic. Sometimes I even bother to develop some of my own projects.
My job of a kind is to make a Ph D on a strange guy in the 17th century, who was perhaps the last universal genius. He's called Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz. I'll have it ready next year and then I can try to decide what I'm going to do as a grown-up. If possible, I will try and become a philosopher one day.

My Interests

Music, Films, Books, Philosophy, History, Biographies, Learning how to play guitar

I'd like to meet:

Mostly people who are already dead, as you can see from my friend-list ;)
Most of my friends in real world are not in myspace, so I tend to think this whole idea of friends or top8-friends as a little ridiculous. That's why I don't pretend to have only friends who I really know.
As far as bands go, I approve as friends any band who sounds good to me, whether I have heard of them previously or not.
There is no logic to my top8. I change them often, sometimes according to some theme, sometimes not. It's much more fun...although Tigrushka is naturally always my no. 1 friend and my band Lockman comes second.

Music:

Guitars...tons of strange-sounding guitars, please! Captain Beefheart, NYC punk. Sweet melodies! Spector, Beatles, Byrds, Big Star Rock & Roll! Stooges, MC5, Rolling Stones, Garage Blues!

Movies:

Oldies for me, thanks! Real screenplays, decent actors, something under the surface.

Television:

British comedy is my idea of fun. Monty Python, Not the nine o'clock news, Goodness gracious me, Alias Smith and Jones, Smack the pony...I watch very little television programs.

Books:

I can't survive without books. Don't have much time for fiction, but I read a lot of philosophy and biographies (of philosophers, mostly). Then again, I read a little too much music press to be able to read as many books as I would like to.

Heroes:

A working-class hero is something to be.

Bad cell phone photos, vol. 1

I am not much of a photographer, so it is of no use to buy an expensive digital camera. Instead, I managed to acquire a cheap cell phone with a camera. So I am a semi-professional cell phone photograp...

A blast from the past: Flamin' Groovies

I found this by accident - I must have written it over 10 years ago, since it was from an old diskette...have no idea why I have written it and for what purpose. It's not good, but I am pleased to fin...

Whattahell do I see every fucking day I come here? Skin, skin and more skin. I know this is supposed to be a place to find friends (which is not really the most important thing for me, the loner-basta...

Yesterday we had a binge with my mrs, known to some as Tigrushka. It's exactly 12 years we met on a blind date, arranged by a friend and it's 10 years we have been married. But I was not to tell you ...

The people in Finland have gone completely gaga over curling, a very strange game where people throw stones around and clean the place at the same time. Whereas earlier it was considered quite camp an...

The Dream Syndicate is one of my all-time favourite bands. Great rock'n'roll with lots of emotion and fascinating weirdness. Today I was very excited to see their tour-film Weathered and Thorn, which ...
