About Me

!! COURTESY WARNING !! D on't be offended if I don't immediately accept a friends/blog subscription.
I get lots, am selective, and like to check people out first! Your private profile isn't helping!!

I do not want to meet thoughtless people.
Have the courtesy to send a 'hello' message with a friend request or blog subscription invitation.
Realise that I'm more likely to be guilted into checking you out!

No Hello Message = Rejected Request
Million Bulletins a Day = NO !
Spamming my Comments Box = NO !
Trawling my Friends List and Spamming Them = NO !

(depending on my mood - if you're smart and funny, you'll probably be let off)
I am here to find good music, writers, and people (and blog-dick).
Not to hook up.

Most Flattering Review

"The bass playing of George Georgiou is.. well Georgious. His sense of time and where to place his important notes float intentionally behind the beat and directly on top when needed. Such control is a blessing to a band and rhythm section." (Don Kimenker of EarBuzz.com reviewing Mothband Electricity EP ).

Blushing? Who me?!
My World Visitor Map!
Wotchupta? ...
I play bass with Victoria Hume which I adore doing (hurry up and finish the new album already will ya!), and part of Rich Webb 's European backing band who will hopefully be back touring in 2007. I also spend a lot of time watching gigs, pimping bands I like, networking and looking for new projects for this year.
More recently become addicted to reading and commenting on MySpace blogs, which has rekindled a desire to write in me. I guess I've become a sometime writer of short blog-type things, but there's at least one novel in me if I ever have the motivation to start it!
For my music and writer recommendations, see below or trawl my friends list.
Yeah but like, tell me 'bout yerself...
A music lover first, bassist second, and some way behind that a guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, lyricist and sometime keyboardist. One day I might add writer to that list...
Raised in Edmonton (London, not Alberta) on a diet of pop and soul, digging my own way from Luther back into the depths of Atlantic and Motown. First gig - saw Chas and Dave when I was 6 (school assembly), sung soprano when I was 8 (Aled Jones has much to answer for), first band at 9 (four of us armed with Casios learning Glenn Miller at Tej's house), played alto sax, first played bass guitar and formed "Blow" when I was 15 (twelve-piece "soul orchestra" bringing classics to a generation of pop and indie kids). Dabbled with hip hop, engineering for the "Infamous Compton Posse" on their first album (main man Noel latterly discovered guitars too with Dixie ).
Kidnapped by "guitar music" when I moved to South Wales in '93, force-fed a diet of Britpop and Indie, and invited to join close friends in the formation of "The Beckett", riding the wave of Britpop through the Swansea student population, regularly packing out the City's best venues. Regrouping in The Smoke with a new drummer a few years later, we attacked the London circuit and then brought South West England to its knees, recording three EP's along the way and denting the early days of internet music with an mp3.com Top 20. Where I learned to love being in a rock'n'roll band.
Tarted my bass around several groups after the demise of The Beckett in 02, did some development work with The Random , Ghost No5, Andrea Miller, x2, Stylus and a few others, as well as gigging regularly with Evi Vine , Money $hots , Victoria Hume/Moth and as part of Rich Webb 's UK backing band.
2007
Looking for new projects and the motivation to follow through on my own ones!

Where to begin?!...

Pop of all kinds... music should touch people who don't understand how it's made - I hope I never get far enough up my own arse that I forget that!

From Haley & Holly , Lennon & Garfunkel , Gordy , the New Romantics , even SAW had a big influence I guess.
My musical background is broader than many - there's a lot of great music out there.

Bass Heroes: Mani (Roses/Scream), James Jamerson (Motown God), Jack Bruce (Cream), Mat Osman (Suede), John Taylor (Duran), John Entwistle (Who), Andy Rourke (Smiths), Stove King (Mansun), Alonza Bevan (Kulashaker), Mick Grondahl (Jeff Buckley).
If I get close to any of these, I'll be a happy bassist.

Record Labels: None, Sunday Sessions (UK), All Killer (Australia/UK)

Type of Label: None
