This years Battle of the Bands will be dedicated to Steve Harris who sadly passed away on January11th 2008. Steve was an insperation to all young musicians in Dorset, aswell as being a highly respected improvised Jazz musician who played drums in several bands, playing in many different countries throughout his life. He was a great friend and collegue and I will miss him.I'm a fan of new, unsigned and underground music and I have great respect for anyone who writes, playes and performes their own music.
I am an artiste and band manager, at present I manage Blues/Punk band Multicoloured Green (www.multicolouredgreen.co.uk) and I am helping to promote Will McNicol (myspace.com/willmcnicol) who I believe is a classical guitar genius.
In 2005 and 2006 I created and ran AMPfest, an indoor festival of new music from unsigned bands and artists from accross the south of England. In 2007 I moved the festival outdoors, this proved to be fantastic musicaly but a financial disaster due to the rain and a venue that did not uphold it's agreement and closed us down 5 hours early because their driveway could not handle the traffic, deffinatly a lesson learned on my part. I do not know yet if I will be running any kind of festival in 2008 but I'm sure something will suggest itself to me and I'll run with it and make it work, all in the cause of promoting new music. My website is at www.ampradio.co.uk its not really an online radio station but there will be downloads of new music and loads of info about up and coming bands and news about our events (eventualy). I run a yearly Battle of the Bands competition for 13 to 18 year olds who live or go to college in Poole, it is held at Mr Kyps live music venue in Poole, Dorset, the next one will be held in February 2008 so if you are aged between 13 (min age) and 18 (max age) and at least one member of your band comes from Poole then please send me the link to your myspace and I will consider you for the competition, I do get a lot of applications so if you do not get through this year please try again next year.
