My Interests

boxing, kenpo, writing, reading, tats, piercings, all forms of spirituality, conversations, coffee, Kerouac, Hunter S Thompson, and it goes with loving Kerouac and Thompson that I love sex, fast cars, and good times, not to mention music of all kinds... I study different types of religions- I've read just about every book mankind has held sacred since the dawn of time... from satanism to shamanism- from christianity to tantra (yes it was a religion that predates Hindu in India- it's not just about sex)...

Enjoy some Hunter S Thompson quotes...

*I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me.

*The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over.

*If I'd written all the truth I knew for the past ten years, about 600 people - including me - would be rotting in prison cells from Rio to Seattle today. Absolute truth is a very rare and dangerous commodity in the context of professional journalism.

*Call on God, but row away from the rocks.

*A word to the wise is infuriating.

AMEN so keep your advice to yourself...

I'm the king of my life and if you have a criticism chances are I've thought of that point and considered it and tossed it aside. If I want your advice I'll ask for it.

I'd like to meet:

Artists, people who read the writers in my book section... thinkers, martial artists, boxers, buddhists, I dunno- just about anyone who isn't sappy and boring...Malcolm X, Fred Hampton, Sr., Chuck Palanuik, Anthony Bourdain

Music:

All forms. Rasta, Jazz, hip hop, punk rock, old country, alt country, gangsta rap, motown, philly soul, some older industrial and goth... if it grooves or has artistic merit I'm on it...

you can't put music in a box- well you can if you suck- yes you- you people who love only one kind of music- you suck- no one has said that to you before? well let this be your wake up call- YOU SUCK!!!

I AM 56% PUNK ROCK! The intelligent punk. Tuff and Smart. I may be able to maintain a train of thought long enough... What the fuck was I talking about? Take the PUNK ROCK test at Fuali.com

Which Grunge Band Are You?

Movies:

Goodfellas, The Godfather 1 & 2, Fight Club, Public Enemy number 1, Donnie Brasco, Blow, Traffic, Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, The Monte Python Films, Richard Kern videos... Hollywood has seen its better days but every once in a while they mess up and put out a quality film... I like gangerster movies... Ed Norton, Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, Marlon Brando, James Cagney and Johnny Depp are good actors... Nicole Kidman, Wynona Ryder, Glenn Close, Vivian Lee, and Anne Bancroft are good actresses... Martin Scorese, Francis Ford Coppola (though Jack sucked!) the Cohen brothers, David Lynch, Sophia Coppola, and Stanley Kubrick are good directors...

Television:

Friday Night Fights on ESPN2, Discovery Channel, Learning Channel, Science Channel, CNN, MSNBC, The Daily Show, The O'Reilly Factor (as an indy I try to get news from both sides), Real Time with Bill Maher

Books:

Dharma Bums, On the Road, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Hell Angels, Notes from the Underground (Dostoyevsky), Really anything by Kerouac, Hunter S Thompson, Chuck Palanuik, Franz Kafka, or Fyodor Dostoyevsky. Anything spiritual or philosophical, especially buddhism.

A few months ago I finished 'Shadow Box' by George Plimpton. It talks a lot about boxing but also gives some inside info into Plimpton meeting other authors such as Ernest Hemingway, Norman Mailer, and Hunter S Thompson

Just finished "The Black Lights" by fellow boxing scribe Thomas Hauser. It is excellent. Where Shadow Box was a book anyone could read and enjoy this is a behind the scenes look at boxing during the 80's. To some extent it answers why boxing is somewhat corrupt... a great read and if you get to meet Hauser he is a helluva nice man to boot... not an ego-maniac like me : )

Heroes:

my Dad, my grandfather, my mom, my son, Jack Kerouac, Hunter S Thompson, William S Burroughs, boxing trainer Teddy Atlas, Chuck Palanuik, Franz Kafka, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Edmund Kealoha Parker, RS Mitchell
