The identity and birth of
LAZAINA COUNTRY ROCK FESTIVAL
The festival was organized for the first time last year, 16 June 2007, and it consisted of a concert by four bands form Ioannina and Athens in the village square.
Some of the main reasons for the organization were:
1. The need to promote the turiristically underdeveloped area of the Ioannina prefecture and especially that of Katsanohoria.
2. The cancelation of that years’ CASTLE ROCK FESTIVAL.
3. The lack of wide space concert venues and organizations that is accessible to new and not so well-known bands.
The success of last years combination of camping and open air concert and last years audience feedback has forced a reevaluation of the events’ potential and that of its expansion.
The early study and evaluation showed the increasing interest of the local audience, artist and authorities.
That could be measured by the eagerness of all the above to participate and support this years event.
Also the fact of the eagerness of last years Athenian participants and their suggestion of other Bands from Athens and Thessaloniki proves the above.
The “COUNTRY ROCK†parameter
The festival takes place in the village of Lazaina, Katsanohoria, just 22 klm from Ioannina city.
The area offers a variety of the natural beauty which is typical of Epirus.
Even the most inexperienced visitor can, with a half hours walk, find himself relaxing by the river side of Arahthos river, or admiring the view from the hillside of Aetoraxi, or being immersed in the local forests.
The visitors of the Festival can take advantage of the Camping area next to the festival which will be developed and organized especially for this purpose (water tanks, electric light and WC) and they can even travel free from the central square of Ioannina with the allocated buses that will be available twice a day.
It is our intention this year to organize a variety of “country†activities for our visitor such as: organized Hiking, horse riding, and rafting.
After all, one of our initial purposes was, and still is, to communicate the values of country life to the younger generations.
LAZAINA COUNTRY ROCK 2008
27-28-29 June
This year’s three day event will consist of:
• 18-20 bands from Ioannina, Corfu, Thessaloniki and Athens, playing at the main stage from 19:00 to 02:00 each day.
• Horse riding sessions (in collaboration with a local farm) during afternoon hours.
• Organized hiking in the surrounding areas.
• Rafting sessions in Arahthos river (in collaboration with a local team)
• Street theater (in collaboration with an amateur group from Ioannina)
• Dance exhibitions (local traditional and Latin)
• Capoeira workshop (exhibition and lessons)
• Free buses for the transportation of the visitors form Ioannina (each day at 12:00 and 17:00, then returning at 03:00).
• Organized camping area next to the concert area.
• 2 kiosks and 1 cantina for the service of the festival visitors.
