EDDIE SKULLER

Boy George meets Frank Sinatra

About Me

REVIEWS • ALL ABOUT JAZZ: "Eddie Skuller's voice hovers somewhere between the ionosphere and the microphone, revealing an obvious affinity for the vocal stylings of Jimmy Scott"•PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS: "Skuller embraces the dark and moody but injects the tender promise of hope. Not an easy thing for most singers to pull off"•TIME OUT NEW YORK: "Skuller makes a frown his umbrella with dreamy reinventions of jazz standards"•PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER: "HIP HEARTACHE! With his Boy George-meets-Frank Sinatra delivery... creates a cohesive exploration of the profound side of pop despair"•WDVR FM - RICHARD EDGCOMB: "Eddie fills most every song with an emotional quality that is rare, as he slows the tempos and punctuates each note with a fresh, soulful voice. Eddie Skuller is a terrific performer, setting standards for other musicians to follow"•VILLAGE VOICE: "Skuller takes you on a pub crawl from paradise to the pit and back, spiking supper-club standbys with troubling undertones and stirring in some sturdy tear-in-your-beer originals. Visit his site to see where un-happy hour starts next"•NEW YORK TIMES: "his lofty tenor is too original to pigeonhole"•JAZZREVIEW.COM: Skuller too has his own cult following of listeners who are drawn into the darkness before the dawn suggested by the angst shining through his singing. His performances consist too of notes drawn out to edge-of-one’s-seat length and words that bear universal emotional weight suggesting recovery from—or at least perspective upon—at worst great suffering and at least hurt feelings.“Lilac Wine” provides more than sufficient evidence of Skuller’s ability to allow a song to emerge from within. He starts the song without accompaniment, drawing the listener into its possibilities by mesmerizing while introducing the song’s narrative with effective use of dynamics…and as always, the long drawn-out notes from which every possible nuance of feeling is wrung.
