DEVO HAS HIS OWN VOICE
What is it about the music of Frank Sinatra . . . you hear the first words of lyrics of any Frank Sinatra song, and people automatically start a comparison. Vocalists choosing this genre of music will always feel they have to fill those shoes. No, there will never be another Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Elvis, the list goes on. The songs these singers brought to us will live forever, the lyrics are hard to beat, timeless, classic, they will always touch the heart of every listener. Everyone relates to the lyrics of these beautiful songs.
But let’s try and find music for now, for the generation living now. Wayne Devlin, known professionally as Devo, is not Sinatra, is not Martin, is not Elvis, Devo is himself. He has his own sound. He has a voice that is beautiful, smooth, and the talent to interpret the lyrics all on his own and does so with great expertise.
You hear “Summer Wind,†“That's Life,†and “Witchcraft,†and you automatically think “Sinatra,†but before long, you aren’t thinking “Sinatra,†you are thinking “this guy has a voice!†You’ve forgotten Sinatra. The soft caressing vocals are smooth and compelling to draw you in and make you want to listen more. The interpretation of the lyrics comes from within his heart and soul, the emotion the listener feels is similar to the wooing of Dean’s tender seductive charisma, you’re drawn in, you’re captivated, but again Devo is not Dean . . . Devo is his own force.
If we are to continue to let the music of a beloved bygone remain alive, we have to give the up-and-coming vocalists attempting to interpret and deliver in their own style the opportunity to bring us great music of TODAY, NOW. The greats of the past will always have honour and respect in our memories, but let’s give something to today’s music and today’s generation. Experience and enjoy the talent of Devo; he has a voice that cannot and should not be unrecognized. If there is hope for the future and having the delivery of beautiful music -- Devo is the delivery man!

'A seductively soulful feast of mouth-watering jazz brought into the 21st century by Wayne Devlin' - Frances Duckett-Pike
Manchester born singer Wayne Devlin has a vocal style that has been likened to a young Frank Sinatra; crooning, seductive and incredibly soulful. His lyrical talent is familiar, yet new, classic yet innovative, and without any effort at all Devlin is bringing Jazz back into our ears and hearts.
While it is easy to see similarities between Devlin and the great jazz artists of all time: Harry Connick Jr, Michael Buble and Sinatra, Wayne continues his success story and to be seen as a talented artist in his own right. He has his own sound, a voice that is beautiful and smooth, and the ability to interpret songs with great personality and expertise.
Devlin’s big break came last year when he got the chance to sing in Las Vegas and New York. Among the bright lights and smoky bars Wayne put his love for jazz, big band and Lounge music onto stages throughout America.
After making some fantastic contacts and being given some invaluable advice on his next step, Wayne then travelled home to set his many plans into action.
Wayne’s idiosyncratic take on the timeless jazz classics are not to be missed. They have truly been brought back into the 21st century, by this inspiring artist.
I would like to use this part of my My Space to pay tribute and respect to my Father who sadly passed away. Patrick Joseph Devlin was my best friend, I know every son says that about his Father, but he truly was. He was the man who taught me to sing, he encouraged me, he made me tough enough to face this world, especially the entertainment world. He moulded a boy into a man and taught morals and respect. There are no words to describe my feelings. I loved you in life and I won't forget you in death.
Below is a feature from The Messenger Newspaper:
Introducing 'Trafford's Frank Sinatra'
Exclusive By Simon Greenhalgh
MESSENGER'S "Trafford's Got Talent" search for local celebrities. Last month we featured 60-year-old singing sensation Graham Phillips - Altrincham's "The Voice of Elvis". Now in this special feature we meet "Trafford's Frank Sinatra", a man who has sung with The Rat Pack in Las Vegas....
Wayne Devlin, aged 31, lives on Amersham Close in Davyhulme with his with wife Val and their two children Stephen, aged 14 and Matthew, aged 10. The couple met after Wayne had returned to England after two spells working out in America in 2005.
It was during his first trip to New York that he started singing as Frank Sinatra in bars and cafes. "I was making more in tips than I was getting paid," said Wayne. "I was singing in a bar in New York when I got spotted by Gary Anthony whose Nancy Sinatra's favourite sing-alike of her dad. "He said it was a real find to hear an "English" Frank Sinatra and he said I should go out to Las Vegas to perform there, so a few months later I took him up on his invitation.
"I started off doing a support act at the Flamingo for the singer Wayne Newton, who is the residential act at the casino. "Then I got invited to sing at the Golden Nugget Casino and I appeared as part of a Rat Pack set with two other singers."
After his green card expired he returned to England. And for Wayne - rather like the lyrics to That's Life - it felt like he'd been "ridin high in April" and was "shot down in May". He explained: "When I came back home I stopped singing. I was a bit deflated after Las Vegas and I thought what could I do now to match that?"
The answer came on a special night in his local pub when he "picked himself up and got back in the race". "One night I was in my local, the Bent Brook in Davyhulme, when this band were performing and I got up and started singing with them. Funnily enough that was also the night I met Val. "So it’s fair to say that since then my life really has turned around again. I've got a great family life and the music is starting to take off."
The couple married on July 14 2007. Val also acts as Wayne's agent and thanks to her persistence he's been booked to perform a series of gigs at the Trafford Centre. Val said: "I'm the organised one and he's the artistic one. I thought of the Trafford Centre and sent them Wayne's demo and they liked what they heard and booked him. "I'm just glad to see his career taking off. He's had to do building work in between singing and now he's going for his passion. I feel really proud of him, your lucky if you can pursue something you really love doing."
Wayne's launch night at The Trafford Centre is at the bandstand, in The Orient, on Monday September 10 from 7pm.
