About Me

I thought it was time to freshen up my profile. Febreze has helped a bit but I think I need some more words and flashing things as well.
I’m not famous enough or shallow enough to do this in the third person but if I was obviously it would go along the lines of “Iain Ewing is probably the finest exponent of big band swing singing in this or any other country in the World”
All I’ll say is that I love singing whether it be big band, small band or no band at all!
I have been singing for many years in various guises but for the last few years the bulk of what I do is big band.
In Scotland I sing with Brass Impact, a dynamic young big band playing at various events, including the opening of the BBC HQ in Glasgow and various festivals around the country.
In the last year I have also started singing with the Debbie Curtis Radio Big Band. I have been lucky enough to sing at the London Palladium
And Her Majesty’s Theatre London. My appearance at The Palladium has been the highlight of my career to date. I had only gone to London to watch the gig but during the second half Debbie Curtis got me up on stage to sing with the band. It was a total surprise and completely unrehearsed. The resulting recording is in my music player Mack the Knife. Have a listen to hear how things unfolded...
Clicky clicky on the linkies for reviews of the two London gigs. In the fulness of time I will put more flashing things on here. Much excitement to follow...

Influences: There are probably too many to mention as like most singers I have listened to loads of other singers and tried to pinch the best bits and turn them into my own sound.

If I was to name some however it would include Sinatra, Bennet (Tony not Lenny!), Mel Torme, Chet Baker, Mark Murphy and Elvis. That'll do for starters.

I'd also like to mention Fionna Duncan who was instrumental in pointing me in the right direction and always provided support and encouragement.
Sounds Like: Hopefully I'm at a stage now where I simply sound like myself. When I started out I would copy other singers, but over time I think I've managed to stick all the various bits in a big pot and come out as myself.

I've been compared to many different singers in the past some good, some not so good (Dean Freedman!!)but mostly fuelled by alcohol at gigs so I take it all with a pinch of salt.

Have a listen to the tunes here and judge for yourself.
