About Me

Having formed in Summer 2007, The News have been propping up the bars of Manchester's Northern Quarter together ever since. Their love for The Beatles, The Stones, The Coral, Kings of Leon, Elbow, BRMC, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Motown & Early Blues is mutual. Sometimes they argue about the BegeesInitially, the band regularly left the comfort of the bar to shout and make noise in a damp celler in South Manchester.Sometimes the noise sounded distinctly like melodies and when not arguing or laughing at each other the shouts sounded a bit like harmonies.About a month after getting together they made their debut at a riotous Night & Day gig and realised that people quite liked to see these four boys who shout and make noise.Further gigs followed at Manchester's Roadhouse, Dry Bar, Late Rooms and Ruby lounge amongst others and before long they began playing further afield.Soon the band evolved from writing spikey garage band songs to songs that maybe, just maybe, might make the next couple of years very interesting indeed.Amongst homegrown fans the band have also met praise from the music industry. Chris Helm of The Seahorses recently described 'Sunday Morning Blues' as Fooking Cool.In Jan 2008 the band were invited to play a music festival in Denmark on stages bigger than the houses they were brought up in.A triumphant return to Manchester saw them winning the Manchester final of the Stagepass National Battle of the bands.Appearances on Channel M & local radio stations followed and before long the band were turning down Independent Label deals.2009 will see The News launch their self titled debut album under their own imprint 'Down & Out Records'.The News www.myspace.com/soundofthenews Support Independent Music MyGen Profile Generator

"Next up is The News, another Manchester four piece who wear their musical influences on their collective sleeve. Playing a muddied up, murky version of traditional British pop/rock, their strong melodies still shine through. Strains of the Stones boogie can be heard, especially in the rousing set-closer that gets many of the swelling crowd tapping their feet and swinging their hips. I was impressed with the variation in songwriting that The News displayed, with quieter songs making way for louder, rockier fare as the show progressed." Guestlist

"Sunday Mornin' Blues, Fuckin Wicked Tune. Give me a shout and i'll put you on my night!" Chris Helme, ex-Seahorses
