About Me

From an early age, Peter Rodriguez has had a deep interest in music. In elementary school, he began learning television jingles by ear and would play them back on his small, one-octave keyboard. At age 12, he began taking music lessons through a program at his church, giving him the chance to study piano and learn basic music theory. When Peter was 14 he realized that he was drawn to the funky bass lines that he heard on old James Brown records and contemporary gospel records, and he decided to take up the bass. Due to his piano knowledge, scales and bass lines came fairly easily to him on his new instrument. A few years later Peter met the jazz pianist Jon Cowherd (Brian Blade Fellowship, Lizz Wright) with whom he began learning the beginnings of jazz theory. When he was 17 he attended The Bass Collective, a school in New York City founded and staffed by bass players who are active in todays live music scene. It was at the Collective that Peter studied privately with jazz bassist John Patitucci. In 1993, he joined the band at Times Square Church in New York City, at first as a keyboardist, and then later becoming the band's main bassist, a position he held until January 2006. Peter has recently graduated and completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Jazz Piano Performance from The New School for Jazz & Contemporary Music in New York City. Peter has had the opportunity to play with various gospel choirs in major venues including Carnegie Hall and Radio City Music Hall. He has performed for the Michael Bloomberg 2005 re-election campaign, and has had many opportunities to travel and perform all across the United States, and also internationally in countries such as The Philippines, Finland, Italy, Nigeria, Zambia, Jamaica, and Brazil. Peter is also featured on many recordings, not only as a bassist and keyboardist, but as an arranger and composer as well. Peter has performed on Broadway as a bass sub on "Hot Feet" and on television for TBN (Trinity Broadcasting Network) as bassist with the Christian Cultural Center Music Ministry on "Praise The Lord"; a broadcast that showcases various churches and ministries around the world. Most recently you will find Peter touring with Peter Cincotti promoting his new album "East of Angel Town" soon to be released on Warner Bros. Records. He is also proud to endorse MTD basses and strings exclusively. Peter credits all of his talents and success to his relationship with Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
