I am currently saxophonist in Seattle based funk band Altered States of Funk , with whom I have been playing for almost 3 years now. We have performed at Bumbershoot, Seattle Hempfest, Northwest Folklife, The EMP, Chop Suey, Nectar Lounge and a lot of other venues in the Seattle area. We also appeared on KEXP's "Sonarchy" radio show and released a limited edition CD containing the live-in-studio performance recorded for that broadcast.
I recently released my solo debut Doityourselfincrimination (April 2006) on which I play all of the instruments. I also produced, recorded and mixed the CD. My brother, Bryan "Frankenseuss" Theiss (who also does art for Buckethead ) designed the front cover. If you dig the tunes, please visit my Web site and order a copy today!
What people have said about my CD:
"In general, I love the whole CD. It's not boring and it makes you think!!! Good one Mike, proud to know you."
- Bernie Worrell - Founding Member of Parliament/Funkadelic
"Old school butt-winding funk with a nastiness that would've made Bootsy scream 'DAY-AM!!!' - that's the essence of the Mike Theiss stee-lo. Spleen-melting analog bass, horny horns, head-snapping beats, and tighter-than-a-hamster's-butt production are the hallmarks of "Doityourselfincrimination" Dig it once, and you'll have a difficult as hell time keeping his tunes out of your player, Pod, or head!"
- Rafe Gomez - Radio/Club D.J. - The Groove Boutique/NYC
"Do you like Funk? Then you need to check this cat out!"
- Ryan Foster - Mastering Engineer, Freq Mastering, Portland, OR
A few other things about me:I attended Berklee College of Music (class of '95) where I earned a degree in Music Production and Engineering and studied saxophone with Bill Pierce . I like to write about music. If you're into funk music you may have read a review that I've written over the years or perhaps you visited The Motherpage , which I contributed information and writing to.
