Everybody is a STAR -Sly Stone 1969

About Me

I was trying to avoid this but.......o.k. If you have known me since 1981 then you know I've allways had a band or been in a band since the 6th grade! Worked in Detroit Nightclubs out performing our mature musician peers through my High School years at the worlds most notorious High School MUMFORD (see Beverly Hills Cop 1&2) I was one of a chosen few to receive a scholarship to the Berklee School of Music in Boston.A few orientations and I found myself on tour with some Gospel Groups of which a few became famous in the R&B world.J Moss of the Moss Bros(nephews of the Clark Sisters),King James version and a few others. My junior year in High School a friend by the name of Jerome Mongo introduced me to the famous fashion designer Maurice Malone whom we worked for to get cool custom clothes ofcourse! We went to the studio to hang out with Amp Fiddler who bacame a good friend and keyboardist for P-Funk in 1985.From here my whole world opened up majorThrough that I ended up meeting other P-Funk members such as Mike"Clip" Payne and Steve Boyd former Dramatic & 5 Special vocalist.Between those three guys my school of music had become them.I learned how to record & program drums/sequencers,play keyboards, bass, rythm guitar, and vocals!Which made me the Producer I have become to this day.Through that, they refered me for other gigs with local and national artist. My first serious gig was with the legendary local band Onxyz who sold their name to the rap group!I was the band leader for this band one year after I had joined. That led to an Ep and 12' single that I produced at age 18 featuring the late Kareem Baqui and legendary jazz trumpeter Marcus Belgrave! After this I met back up with George Clinton at United Sound Systems in Detroit while he was producing the Animal House Band Otis Day and the Knights!I hung with P-Funk that entire year which eneded up with me doing my first gig with P-Funk at age19.The band was stripped down with the basic rythm section and Garry Shider to rehearse us!We also backed up Mr."Bad mama jama"himself Carl Carlton.Wow!I learned a helluva lot in just one year, that was 1988,incredible! Unfortunately,I had turned down an offer to play with the Red Hot Chili Peppers for personal reasons but I knew that something else big would soon happen with my persistance! From there I started my own organization/band known as Enemy Squad in 1989.There are a few rare recordings, vinyl 45's,12's,and cd's lerking around if you find any, please send me a copy, most of our material is out of print or limited edition but none the less great underground Detroit pioneering music. We started a wake up call in every local band in the city!We were mixing Funk, Rap,Rock,Metal,& a D.J. back in 1990 starting an evolution the world would soon pattern after, even still today! From that I created a sister band called the UltraUnit which was basicly doing what the Roots were doing! We backed up every local M.C. before they could pee str8!All the Hip Hop Shop M.C.'s were there Proof,Thyme,of 5Elements,Eminem when he got booed off the stage,JackFrost,TdaPimp,Cricket,Baatin and etc....That was from 92-94.I was still shopping a deal for E-Squad and we ened up at the New Music Seminar in NYC doing a showcase.I must've went to 10 parties in one night networking!Met Russell Simmons at one, hung with Halle Berry at another,Mercury,Priority,BadBoy,&Elektra Records all had parties galore!I had landed a publishing deal with BMI in 1991 so I knew a few big wigs up in the rotten apple which happens to be my hometowm! By the time we made it back to the MotorCity a few labels had called interested in our demo! So here we go the big industry roller coaster ride of life awaits!!!!!!!!I eneded up signing a Producer/Artist deal with one of the most known Hip-Hop labels in the country for 6 albums!Strange we only released one record cause not only did it do well but sold out and still gets airplay every day to this day!So we played shows around state to state,Canada, anywhere we could be heard we played!Beeper shops,Backyard parties, back of U-Hauls you name I've just about done it!That follows up to 1995 I had recorded a tune with BlackByrd McKnight(P-Funk Bandleader, and former Head Hunters guitarist)called Fly On/DogStar.Little did I know that was a big song for P-Funk in the 90's and right now! That led to me officially go out on the road with George Clinton & his P-Funk All Stars.I'm greatful for that blessing to this day!I got a chance to tour the World several times and meet so many wonderful people who have also become some of my own friends and fans because of this opportunity plus open the doors for my other groups music! Since that I've invested in my own studio, still record a ton of music, and have been the band director for many new artist coming to a stage and music store near YOU! I was the music director for H.R. of the legendary Bad Brains,R&B vocalist Terry Thomas, and a new band called Soul Trip.I've produced tracks on folks like Dawn Silva,Sheila Horne Broady of Brides of Funkenstein,Vena(Hot new artist emerging out the D soon),theProcess,& my own solo cd's which are about 4 ready to drop from Live music recordings to studio,cd&dvd, and I do song remixing too!Got some tight acapellas? Then you can have a remix of your tracks, just need a B.P.M.and I'll create a new landscape for you voice!I recently just went back on the road with P-Funk for a few dates and fun and fam it still is!The band sounds great and so does the crew, everybody is still on the one.Currently I'm in a few other bands that I feature on my top24 like the Electric Glove,TheProcess,& 4:20 FunkMob you can hear me on any of these cd's or online. Thanks for peeping this portion of my life, the next phase is coming soon folks!G.G.
