Being born and raised in detriot mich. in an area called 8.mile (no trailer parks) my musical background started in church. while attending mumford high school in detroit i was surrounded by some of the biggest gospel artist in the industry today like derrick brinkley fred hammond and the winians so from the start i took singing very serious realizing that i could make a living with the gift god gave me i got with various doo wopp singing groups on the west of detroit steve boyd and the midnight dreamers was the last group i had before signing a record deal with warner bros. as a part of a group called the five special one member of the band bryan banks had an older brother who also sang with a group called the dramatics bryans brother was to produce the first album on five special which was a top ten billboard hit"why leave us alone" we toured the u.s.a with the jackson 5 and other groups like kool and the gang five special was on their way up and the record company thought so too they wanted to hook us up with more high powered producers but unfortunately we were in a terrible contract with bryans brother so after unsuccessful attempts to get out of the contract five special just broke up and so had the dramatics. for me united sound recording studios was my savior because with no record deal and no touring a brotha had to result the the skills learned on the streets of 8.mile thats why i could never knock the hustle being that almost every record you heard on the radio coming out of detriot was recorded at united sound studios during the recording of the three albums five special did for warner bros. 1978 i met george clinton he and p funk and bootsy collins recorded in the studio more than everybody they were there all the time the owner of the studio don davis offered me a recording contract i took with out even thinkin about all i knew was that i would in the studio all the time just like george and the funk! the record deal didnt turn in to any realeses but the sessions i did with george more than paid me good money they showed me what making a record was all about i can be heard on such records with the red hot chilli peppers/ prince snoop doggy dogg/ so many records i would be all day making the list so after getting the studio hustle down in 1995 george called me to do a couple shows with him in europe i thought it would be for just a couple shows because i was signed with westbound records at the time turns out that george was in a court battle with westbound over publishing and royaltys which helped me to see i was in the same kind of contract so i asked to be relesed george won the court battle i got my walking papers and ten years later here i am still touring with parliament funkadelic "all around the world for the funk" a solo project is set for spring 07
