CONNECTING AND DISCONNECTING, YOU know who YOU are. I have some things that I need to address to some of YOU and YOU know who YOU are and that is this! Someone is concocting stories, calling and emailing mutual associates and they are in turn calling or emailing me since it seems that YOU do not have what it takes to pick up a phone and call me directly. YOU have to hide behind someone else or a bogus MySpace Site or get someone involved that doesn’t have any business being involved whatsoever; small minded people. The individuals who are doing this are not my friends and this needs to stop. I have a right just like anyone else to express MY opinions, that's what it states in the Constitution of the United States, YOU know the section on "Freedom of Speech" or maybe NOT? YOU all seem to have an opinion of me so YOU know what you can do with that since YOU don't have the backbone to call me yourself and get it out and over with right then and there. I let things like this slide right off my back into a black hole and I go right on with my business and life which it appears YOU have neither. Whether this is jealousy, envy or hate or all of these, let it go; this is what I have come to the conclusion this is about. Apparently something that happened maybe close to two years ago has popped up again I guess (I still have the emails regarding what this person is referring to and can produce them) and someone got a call about banning together to get my MySpace site closed down and for what reason? For something that DID NOT happen through MySpace! HATERS ALL! I haven’t violated any rules, contracts, or agreements put forth by MySpace, but I have had my site hacked into and a virus downloaded through MySpace and from March 30 until April 6, 2008 my computer was down most of those days getting rid of the virus through Verizon and Dell. As YOU can tell since you seem to watch my site most of the time, there are many of those so-called friends who have NOW been deleted along with pictures that I had on my site and THEY make up quite a large group of musicians. I wish you would look into things and research them before YOU jump to any conclusions because YOU are not being given all the facts. I guess there is nothing better for YOU to do then to get messed up everyday and hate people; maybe someone should take pitty on YOU if they were your friends and put YOU into rehab. YOU don’t know what day it is or the century in which YOU are living. It takes so much more effort and time to hate than it does to love, so why not love; forgive and forget will YOU. There is nothing that I'm doing through this MySpace Site that is in violation of their rules and regulations, so stop trying to get my account closed. My friends aren't going to let that happen. YOU all say YOU are CHRISTIANS but I don't see any signs of Christianity in any of YOU, not the Christianity that I know and the God that I love. Too bad! If YOU have a gripe with me call me and talk to me like a man or a woman should, stop hiding behind other people and dragging them into something that isn’t any of their business and living in the past; stay out of my life forever. The quote that I like the best is, “The best revenge is living well and boy, am I living real well†through the Lord. May The Peace of The Lord Be With You.
Maybe now I can get to explain me. I am currently single, retired from the Federal Government, Treasury Department. I am extremely independent, not financially challenged by any means, confident, secure and know who I am.. I do not care for unfounded criticism, I'm ambitious, intelligent, talented, trustworthy, and faithful I take my partnerships very seriously. I grew up in Havre de Grace, Maryland, enjoyed horseback riding, playing in the High School band, go-cart racing, drag racing. I married and from that marriage I have one son, John David and a granddaughter, Makayla Noelle; that marriage ended in divorce. Unfortunately, because of an estrangement that happened back in 1969, I have no contact with my son or granddaughter who is 9 this year but I pray that this situation will finally rectify itself through God's intervention. I'm truly blessed with a great, handsome son and beautiful little granddaughter. I might add that my associations with this musical group contributed to the continual estrangement; you see, other people live in the past too!
I have had my own businesses over the years while maintaining an IT career in the Federal Government, which included Real Estate, Nail Technician, LEF Racing Ent, Rare Book Appraisals, Tile and Painting Sub-Contractor, Kitchen Design and Layout for a wholesale Granite Company and Financial workups and statements for people going through the court system; other mentionables are that I am a Fine Arts Abstract Painter, have held the position of Area Director on the Board of Directors for Montgomery Mutual, Leisure World, MD, Treasurer of the Board of Directors for Kenmanor Condominium, Washington Bullets Special Advisory Board for the Team Members, and I have fostered purebred cats and was a member of the Feline Focus Committee for the Montgomery County Animal Shelter.
In my teens I was a member of the Buddy Deane Committee just prior to the walk out of Buddy Deane because of segregation issues. Mike Shapiro, a friend and member of the Buddy Deane Committee with me and whose father owned a deli and sort of a night spot on the weekends you could see the late Arthur Conely, Sweet Soul Music, frequently coming in to entertain all of us, we were truly blessed.
Back in my pre-teen days, I think I was 11 years old I saw James Brown perform at a carnival in Perryville, Maryland not far from where I grew up; as he was finishing "NightTrain", ironically, a train pulled into the Perryville Train Station and the whistle sounded. This was my first concert ever and a very memorable event in my life. As you can see through my pictures my life has come full circle through my personal friendships and it continues. At a concert at the Howard Theatre back in the 70's, a truly spectacular show, seeing the Godfather of Soul perform with a great band unlike the one so many many years back. He now has gone home on his "NightTrain". RIP James Brown.
During my tenure with the new Washington Bullets Special Board For Team Members, I was fortunate enough to be able to use Abe Pollins Sky Suite to watch the performance of Earth, Wind, and Fire; Shining Star really looked awesome from that vantage point. I had a beautiful room mate, Jennifer, who went with one of Patti LaBell's trumpet players and it was a real pleasure to meet her and the band.
I have purposefully omitted a large part of my life that surrounds a certain musical family for obvious reasons.
Now I'll start this on quite a different side of my music life/circle/cycle that will now take you to the great country folks who were/are a part of my life because some are family members by blood and the other I met along the way. I haven't talked about much but who are none the less a great part of my life and who have made my life musical. My first cousin (paternal) is cousin (this Clarence Selman and I didn't verify but it looks like they are) to The Story Teller of country music Mr. Tom T. Hall, Country Music Song Writers Hall of Fame Inductee, my cousin (maternal), record producer, writer, Ray Pennington, Country Music Song Writers Hall of Fame Inductee. I just recently reconnected with one of Tom T. Hall's band the Story Tellers, Ray Edwards who plays everything and is now in a Blue Grass group. Through Tom's bass player, Chuck Stewart, I met Clarence R. Selman who co-created the International Songwriters Association with his wife Mary Jon Wilken (One Day At A Time), Clarence was manager for Ray Price and the Jim Reeves Estate. Clarence and I were good friends and remained friends for life. Clarence introduced me to Jerry Chesnut, songwriter, producer, musician who had written many songs for artists like Elvis Presley, Brook Benton, Travis Tritt, Tammy Wynette, and many many more artists have recorded; Hal Bynum, songwriter; the late Harlan Howard, songwriter; Bobby Bare, singer/musician, Mary Reeves (Jim Reeves Widow), and Doc Watson, singer/songwriter/musician. Then I met Johnny Paycheck through one of his musicians, Michael O'Brien, who was the son of my father's friend and co-worker. I also was privileged to meet the late Johnny Russell, such a talented, great, gentle and funny man.
One day I will add the drag racing era since it has taken up, part-time, 27 1/2 years of my life as a go-cart and drag racer and drag race team owner of LEF Racing Ent. and team member of the drag racing team J&S Racing, Pasadena, MD, they included, Sam, Tony, Joe, Clarence, and Bob; other racing buddies would be Darren, Larry, Roy, Wayne, RC, Bobby, Bernie, and Tatto Charlie, we always had a great time and were a close family of drag racing buddies.
I have a wonderful and loving adopted/extended family: Laura, Gary, Jason and Missy, Lisa and Eddie. My dear handsome son, John David and beautiful granddaughter, Makayla Noelle. My biological family members who I dearly love are C.B., Buster and Linda, Harley, Russell, Mike, Sandy, Frank, Rene, Larry and Claude, Diane and Sharon.
At the beginning of this year I made a statement about the way the year 2007 ended that this would be the year we will as artists/poets/musicians/writers come together to "keep the music alive" and the world a better place by remembering this statement I made to two friends, "NO HATE IN 2008" and I mean that. To hold hate for anyone is only working to your disadvantage, not the other way around. The only good revenge is to live well and I live very well in my beautiful home in a gated secure community.
