I was born to Henri II and Catherine de Medici as their third child on June 27th 1550 at Saint-Germain-en-Laye in paris. Thanks to my mother, I, along with my other siblings, received much education from top-notch experts in many areas such as Latin, Music, Spanish, Geography and Arts. I was a rather active youngster and liked to go hunting. At first I bore the title of Duke of Orleans and I became king in 1560 by the death of my brother Francis II, having my mother, Catherine de Medicis as my regent. In 1570 I married Elizabeth of Austria, daughter of Maximilian II. I was known to approve the St. Bartholomew's Day massacre that started on August 24, 1572. During my reign, a new religious war was about to start in France between Catholics and Huguenots. My health was never strong and tended toward tuberculosis. I died on May 30th 1574 and was succeeded by my younger brother, Henri.
